Hi Everyone!!
I'm new to the message board,...been mainly reading past posts and trying to absorb as much info as I can....I had a cat with diabetes years ago, and haven't given insulin shots or kept up with what are the best foods to feed a diabetic cat in almost 8 years now, so I needed to learn everything all over again. I also need to try to find some information about either pet RX discount cards or financial assistance for pets with diabetes, since I am on disability and on a very fixed income, but I love my Brewster and will make sure, no matter what, that he gets the insulin he needs.
Does anyone know the carb content for Simply Nourish Freeze Dried Chicken Cat Treats? Brewster was just recently diagnosed with diabetes and I've always fed him the Fancy Feast Pate wet food (I've always had bowls of dry food out for my cats, and he used to love it, but suddenly stopped eating it for some reason,...Maybe he realized he is diabetic on his own!)
He enjoys treats at night, and I recently found these and he LOVES them! Of course, that could change at any given moment!! Finicky pudda's!!
I've been trying to find the carb content, because I know I should only be giving him low carb/high protein diet (right?) Going to keep Google-ing it, but just thought maybe someone on the message board might know.
This is the first time I've posted...wait,...I've already mentioned that!! Sorry,.. I've been on overload reading about diabetic cat care, and my brain is fried!! I had a Siamese cat, Tucker, who had diabetes (I gave him insulin 2x a day, it was PZI back then, and he lived an extra 5 years, which was kind of a miracle because he had several health issues, including being allergic to cat hair!) I've given insulin shots before, but it's been 8 years that he's gone now and I've freaked out about it all over again! Vet prescribed Lantus, 2 units 2x a day, and i'm using the pen (I went to my family doctor yesterday and told her about Brewster, (she also has a diabetic cat) and she wrote up a prescription for the needles used for the pen. Need to thank Venita once again, for sending me the pen,...I think it's going to be easier for me,...I took Brewster back to the vet today because I had some other questions about his treatment and she showed me how to inject the insulin with the pen, so I feel a bit more confident giving him the shots he needs.
The vet gave me a list of low carb foods to feed Brewster, and I know there is a list of them posted on this message board also, but just wondered if anyone has info on the Simply Nourish treats and wet cat food. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks for your help!! This is a great message board, and I've learned a lot in the past week!! I'm going blind from staring at my computer screen for all hours of the night, but my baby is worth it!
Thank-You!!
Darleen
