Pookey and me, the inspiration behind the Feline Diabetes Starter Kit.

When my cat Pookey was diagnosed with diabetes, I was completely overwhelmed with the new routine of testing blood glucose, choosing a meter, finding the right lancets, checking for ketones, and really just figuring out what I really needed.

Pookey went into diabetic remission, thanks to the wonderful Feline Diabetes Message Board (FDMB) community.

Through my involvement with the FDMB, I’ve watched new caregivers face these same questions over and over again. Which meter is the best? What size lancets do I need? Where do I even start?

That’s how I landed on the Feline Diabetes Starter Kit. There aren’t complete kits available out there. Lots of kits will supply a meter and strips. But there are a lot of other supplies you need when getting started. I wanted to bring together everything I used firsthand with Pookey, as well as decades of FDMB knowledge, into one package for new caregivers.

I hope this kit saves people time, removes some of the uncertainty, and helps with that emotional burden of getting started.
