It's been so long since I have posted, but this board saved Shadow's life more than once and enabled him to live 10 long years as a feline diabetic. I want to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart. Most of those who I knew on the board are long gone, although I still see some names that are familiar.

At over 20 years old, the road has come to an end. To give heart to everyone who has an unregulated cat - Shadow's diabetes journey was largely unregulated no matter what I did - and he still lasted 10 years and it was lymphoma not diabetes that eventually claimed him.

His legacy was to help coordinate the use of the color-coded spreadsheet because I desperately needed an easy way to track what was going on with him. To those of you with diabetic cats - the road can be rough at times, but hang in there, cats with diabetes can live long, meaningful lives.

Most of all - to caregivers - do the best you can and give yourselves kudos, don't be hard on yourselves and remember to just love your cat - don't get too caught up in the disease.

We don't know each other at all, but these are for you :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug: It's so hard when the time comes to say goodbye.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping to coordinate the use of the color-coded spreadsheet. It's the only way I've been able to see the patterns so I have a chance to see what my little guy needs next. :):cat:

When you joined the group I didn't even know a cat could get diabetes.
Head bumps from Noah, Nigel is at the bridge with Shadow. :bighug: :bighug: :bighug:

So sorry it was Shadows time. Smokey was 18 1/2 yrs and never regulated. I don't think Olive will be regulated either. Thank you for the color codes. I print it out in color every so often. You can really see what is going on that way. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

(((((D)))))

It certainly has been a long time. I searched for your last condo and the names of many people who welcomed me here far too many years ago were there. Their names -- and yours -- brought a smile despite this being an announcement that one of the legends of FDMB is joining many of of our kitties at the Bridge.

Fly free, Shadow, and land softly. Many who we dearly love are at the Bridge to greet you and will be there with you until you are reunited with the one you love best.

"Cats never completely leave you. They side step time, shrug off death - come at the call of memory their beauty undiminished, their touch as gentle, their love perpetual."

So sorry to hear another legend has left for the Bridge.

Fly free sweet Shadow and land softly. You'll have lots of old friends to greet you and keep you company until the one you love most comes to be with you forever cat_wings>o

Your legacy will live on helping lots of other sugar-kitties :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Dear D,
Your fine kitty will always be in that place in your heart that belongs only to him. He lived a grand life; regulation isn't everything! Thank you for the spreadsheet colors. They make it so much easier to see what is going on.
Fly free, handsome Shadow! You are much loved. cat_wings>o

In deepest sympathy,
Ella & Edward, Rusty, and Stu (GA)

What a wonderful story about Shadow, and your kudos to FDMB. You have nine lifetimes of memories with Shadow. An amazing story, and a great legacy for a regal kitteh. Like Shadow, our Leo is not regulated either despite my daily attempts. For some cats, that is meant to be.

May sweet Shadow fly freely and land softly at the Bridge. Shadow had a good home and was loved.cat_wings>o
.

Shadow's story and longevity will give heart to so many caregivers of FD kitties.
I'm so sorry it was Shadow's time to cross the bridge. :rb_icon:cat_wings>o
Condolences to you:bighug::bighug:

Prayers for your grieving heart. Memories can fade but The love will live forever.
I , of course, have a special tug at my heart for all the Shadow's ....

Fly Free Precious Boy....

(((((((((( D ))))))))))

Reading your post brought tears, but also so many memories... I'll foerever be grateful for learning so much about ketones and what to do when kitty is throwing them from watching jojo work with you and Shadow... switching insulin and shooting so frequently... and Shadow's fancy Japanese dishes... wasabi dishes, I think. They were the envy of every kitty on the board! :)

Shadow lived a long life because of your love and care for him.

Good advice... truer words have not been spoken.

I'm so sorry it was Shadow's time. Take care of yourself, D.

cat_wings>o Fly free dear Shadow... land softly.

So sorry it was sweet Shadow's time to leave for the Bridge. His legacy of the color-coded spreadsheet will live on, and continue to help all others who come here seeking guidance and understanding. He will live on in your heart forever. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Fly free, beloved Shadow, land softly at the Bridgecat_wings>o

Shadow will have many friends to greet him at the bridge. What a bean to devote 10 years to Shadow's FD. In the end know you did everything possible to make sure he was pampered. My boy thanks you for Shadow's contribution to the SS, it was an invaluable tool in the kit.

Fly free Shadow and may your friends greet you warmly on your new journey.

I’m so sorry (((D))). How amazing that he did so well for so long with FD. That is truly a tribute to the great care you gave him.

And thank you for the color coded SSs!

May peace be in your heart for giving him such a great life.

{{{D}}}

I did not know you or Shadow, but I know the legacy that he leaves - each and every one of us here benefits every day from the color coded spreadsheet. What a gift you gave us! Thank you so much.

Ten years with diabetes is amazing, and a true testament to the love and care you gave to Shadow. You are truly an inspiration. Both of my diabetic cats also crossed due to something unrelated to FD, so I know, as you do, that FD is not a death sentence. Truly blessed are the cats whose beans are willing to undertake the challenge that FD brings, and great are the rewards to those beans. Shadow will live on in many hearts, in addition to yours.

My kitties and I send our deepest sympathy to you for your loss. :bighug:

Fly free, Shadow, and land softly. :rb_icon:
