Red's dose after falling out of remission

That is exactly what I was hoping would happen. And you feel comfortable drawing the .10 dose?

Oh yes, I'm perfectly fine giving the .1 dose. I'm even okay giving the drop dose (or fat zero). We gave both of these to Red right before he went into remission a few years ago.

I am sure you are busy with this board and your personal life. Can you check my prior message for other questions I had?

Also, what should I do if I need a quick answer (for dosing) and you're not available? I don't know if I should wait for your reply or go to someone else?

What do you think about giving insulin for when I'm away next weekend? Like I said, even with snacks in an auto feeder, it's possible Red could still go hypo with an insulin injection, right? No one will be around to see/check on him for hours. Do you think it would be okay if he did not get insulin, or is 2 1/2 days too long to go without? I'm worried about leaving him.

If everything continues as is and now that Red has earned another reduction (exactly what I was hoping and expecting so that is why I had not weighed in on a dose yet — although I was going to do so today… and saw your message early this morning about the reduction so that was just perfect) — so anyway, I would just not give any insulin to Red while you are away. You are leaving Friday morning, correct? Well just don’t give him insulin that morning and don’t have the pet sitter give any insulin. It would be very good, however, if she could record his A.M and P.M. blood glucose levels and write them down and the time they were taken. Then when you return we will look at them and make an evaluation as to whether he is ready for an OTJ trial. Then you will not have to worry about Red at all while you are gone! You will be able to fully enjoy your trip and family! 😀

If you have an emergency and need assistance and are not getting an answer and feel you need one immediately— then you can make a post on feline health and see if anyone over there can help. The problem is that most of the people on health are not familiar with ProZinc and won’t advise on its dosing. There are a few moderators who might be able to help, but they are not always available either.

At this point in Red’s journey, I really doubt you are going to have an emergency question though! You have experience, and Red is behaving just perfectly for us. His dose is very tiny right now. If you are concerned about tonight’s dose, tell me your shot time again and your time zone and I will set an alarm to be available around that time.
 
I haven’t wanted to jinx Red’s progress by putting the horse ahead of the cart. I anticipated the reduction to .10 and was so happy to see it because I feel like it allows us to let him go without any insulin while you are away — and who knows he may earn the drop dose before you go as well :)

So my apologies if you thought I was taking too long to talk about the dose for while you are away. I am sorry if I caused you extra stress.

I was hoping you would say it's okay to not give him the insulin while I was away. I wasn't sure if that was a good idea. For sure this will ease my mind. Yes, I leave Friday AM and return Monday AM +2-3 hours. I never thought about the Friday AM dose. I actually thought about giving it before I left, but I will pass on that now as I think that's a better idea. And I like your suggestion of having the sitter take some BG levels when she comes for the AM and PM visits. Great idea!

I'm glad you clarified snack as a spoonful of LC wet food. I was thinking treats.

I'm hoping he earns another reduction this week. I know he's very close! It could be the steroid has finally left his system. I'm on Eastern time zone and give Red his shots about 9am and 9pm. I don't think I'll have any issues though. If he's get to a <60 nadir again, it's the drop dose.

I don't think I'll have an urgent question either, I'm just a planner and like to know about the "what if's". I also prefer to stick with the one who has been helping and guiding us.
