Most male cats should weigh around 11-12 pounds, so it sounds like Dusty is just about right. Of course, ECID so some cats like Bengals or Maine coons will be bigger and weigh more.
My civie Monet got up to 16 1/2 pounds a couple of years ago, way too much for him. Took him back down to around 12 pounds now and he is much more active and healthier. He only gets canned food, needing about 7-8 ounces a day to maintain his weight. Dusty may need more or less, it all depends on how he does on the different canned foods available.
The great thing about the wet food is it fills them up better and it's easy to portion control. Lot's of flavors to tempt them too.
Here is a nice
Body Condition Score chart, to help you assess Dusty's weight.
Meal feeding works better for me, and helps to keep them satisfied with their food intake spread out during the day. I also add a tablespoon of water to each portion of food. Helps to give them a fuller feeling, and flushes out toxins through the kidneys. I weigh Monet at least once a week, at the same time of day, and adjust the food portions as needed. He's been needing a bit more food this fall, maybe because of the cooler weather, don't really know, but closer to 8 ounces is working better for him right now.
Your mileage may vary. ;-)
