New to Feline Diabetes

The as fed carbs is an unrealistic number by the manufacturer, for George we don’t need calories as much as we need to stabilize a good BG I have always followed dry carb matter ser Corky’s remarks in SS scrolling to the left his daily full menu what when what I feed he is tightly regulated

Zach, Okay, so tomorrow morning, you're going to test George about 30 minutes before shot time and get his preshot number. You'll want to select the "no prefix" option that falls to the left of your post and select the "?" Write in your title "help with dosing." Hopefully, then, someone will jump in to give you some guidance.

You've done really well with your little guy today! Pat yourself on the back!!
Okay! Ill write myself a note to do that in the morning. Thank you for all of your help, everyone. I likely wont be super active in here unless I need help because im not horribly sociable but ill try and keep George's spreadsheet up to date

Gotcha. Ill return what I bought then!

@CORKY if Kirkland is that low should I change his food at all? I figured we could try the tiki cat wet due to the higher protein but if he doesnt need it changed then I don't want to stress him
Transitioning any food needs to be a slow process we do not want to upset George’s stomach and if the food you are feeding now is higher than 10% by switching it ca dive down the glucose levels which means more regular testing needs to be done during this transition, look at the ingredients on the label insert those on the calculator, the right side has the dry matter carb that is what you are going to go by, if you are satisfied is 10% or under keep doing what you are doing

Got it. You all have given me much more information than the vets have, thank you so much. Im going to head to bed now. Ill follow up on the new thread tomorrow morning!

The Kirkland looks pretty low to me. The only thing you would want to be concerned with is the quality of protein. Many of us here feed Fancy Feast Classic Pates. It is a low carb food, and the protein is reportedly good quality. Tiki is also a very good quality food.
