10 minutes, or 20? I dread the numbers now. But I still hope. Each number takes my emotions along with it. But we are keeping steady here. Just really exhausted.
Well, you can scan as much as you like, but you may be tormenting yourself. Do you want to try and see if he will eat LC food again - the Ff that he likes? With a little honey? Then do 20?

  • If you can get him to eat even a small amount of some low carb food, that will help him stay steady as it lasts longer and the honey lasts less time…..if that makes sense. If you are not going to give any honey, I would test in 20 not 30 because if he is going to drop again we need to catch it sooner rather than later.

It’s 9 minutes til the 20 minutes after the last reading. After that, we can try to feed him ff. We can add honey, or I can shoot it down him again. He does hate that. But maybe more chance of him eating food without honey? Not sure at this point.

Ok let’s wait and see what the next BG is

Will he let you just rub some honey on his gums if we need more honey? I used to just rub it on the gums

Ok. Looks like the insulin might be starting to finally wear off.
I think test in 30 and if it’s still up we can wait an hour without more food and see how it’s going .
what do you think Suzanne.??
Exactly! Definitely high enough to wait 30 and if he’s still up then an hour. And hopefully you will be in the clear then!

Remember how many hours ago you asked if you would have to stay up all night. And we said…. No… surely the insulin would be worn off by then!

ECID so it’s hard to predict how long it will take and I’ve had some really long nights with cats that have been given too much insulin.
But I am wondering if the vet possibly gave more than the 3.75 units of Lantus because this had been a long time for that amount of insulin to wear off..Maybe she misjudged the dose in the original syringe or maybe the syringe was not the equivocal a U40 syringe…….just wondering this…….

Yes. It seems pretty incredible to me that it’s gone on this long.

Yes. So mark down the time that he finished eating so you will know when it has been two hours with no food. I think he finished eating about ten to fifteen minutes ago.
OK. We think he finished about 5:10 or so. Could have been 5. It’s getting a little surreal around here. So, we have a timer going now that will go off in 15 minutes for testing. Then we set again for 30?

It does my head in to try to figure out what happened. She definitely dosed him based on his weight, plus she used a U40 syringe. She told us to dose him 1.5 units on the U40.
