If it was 1.5 units on a U-40 syringe, that's equivalent to 3.75 units of Lantus, right everybody? Isn't that what we saw on the charts that @Teetee (UK) posted above?

I thought we had agreed on a .5 units starting dose? Anyway, the vet did not agree obviously and doesn't seem to know the difference between a U40 insulin and a U100 insulin.
My chart says 1.5 with a U40 syringe is 3.8 units with a U100 syringe, which is the same thing.

Jill the BG could drop further, but that doesn't mean Merlin isn't safe. When a kitty is given too much insulin the nadir and the duration is usually longer than a normal cycle so we need to expect that. He is not dropping fast and you are doing a great job with keeping him safe.

The starting should have been 0.5 units and none of this would have happened. I am amazed that the vet would make such a basic mistake with the syringes. I don't think she knows much about feline diabetes.
He's staying flat. That's good. I would maybe see if he will lick a little gravy or if you can't get just gravy off of the food just let him eat a tiny amount. Maybe we can keep him from dropping more. And test in 20
Yes. She told me .5 unit back when it was going to be Caninsulin. I checked again recently and she said .5. Today she said 1.5 because it’s a different insulin. I should have stopped her right there. The only other syringe she had was u20.
If you look at the first two hours of the cycle, the BG dropped quite fast but then it slowed right down and has just been a steady drop since then.
It depends on how he goes during this cycle. You will need to post and ask for advice on that.
Absolutely you need to tell her what happened and why. She needs to know what she did wrong so she doesn't do it again. She needs to learn what syringes to use with what insulin ....otherwise the mistake could be lethal next time
If I tell her now she will want me to bring him in and put him on a drip. She is asking me to update her on his numbers every two hours. Her plan was to keep him there for at least two hours after the shot. She is concerned, but not very knowledgeable.
I wouldn't tell her now. He doesn't need a drip at this point. Tell her after the event. You have your hands full at the moment keeping Merlin safe,.

OK I would stop feeding him any more food for 30 minutes and then test and see if he is rising, staying steady or dropping again.
Jill... did you see this (above)... what Bron said about the nadir and duration... so this could go on for quite a few more hours. He's doing great now, and so are you. I'm proud of you!
I would not feed him for now. We need to see if he can stay up on his own. If any food is given, it should be ordinary low carb unless he drops again
Having trouble finding a syringe called u100, but John has found some syringes that are 1ml with 100 units/markings on them. They just call them 1 ml syringes. Would these work?

The U 100 3/10 syringes are better than the 1 ml U100 syringes as they are smaller and are easier to give smaller doses with. I would keep looking. Maybe look online.

I don't think Jill should be trying to use any other syringes except the U100 3/10 syringes I mentioned above. I would keep looking for them. If Lantus is available in Ireland I think they should have the U100 3/10 syringes somewhere. otherwise they can be bought in England.
