We are starting on 1.0 unit (had two shots yesterday). Spreadsheet is in world numbers for now. We had originally started him on 2.0 units last week but his numbers went from 18.6 down to 7.8 in less than 24 hours so I got spooked (2.0 units first shot, 12 hours later only did 1.0 unit).

So Tuesday night we started him on 1.0 unit. The monday info on the spreadsheet is a curve with no insulin.

Not sure how often to test him on day two - I was thinking every three hours. He's on a low dose so I don't expect any big drops.

I had a dream last night about ear lancing. I had to do it like ten times, he kept squirming, I stabbed his forehead instead of his ear, then I kept getting errors and the strips didn't suck the blood right or I put the strip in backwards or forgot that I had a new bottle and didn't code it (put the chip in). I don't have these fears when I prick his ear. Things have been going well except for stabbing myself in the fingers trying to get the 25g needle in position. I did hurt his ear two nights ago. He pulled away just as I was pricking his ear and he bled a lot so maybe thats where my dream stemmed from. So this morning I had trouble with the ear pricking - took four or five pricks, got error codes and not enough blood. The dream had a subconcious affect on me I think. So I've really put his ear through a lot this morning - let alone today. I wonder if I should wait until tomorrow to test throughout the day?

His old spreadsheet is here - in US numbers - just a day and a half of data though - and then we stopped for five days at vets instructions: https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub...OVlDQ3BBSUc2aTBBcWFpZTBJcWc&hl=en&output=html

Re: Maverick AMPS 277.2 1.0unit day 2

Are you able to test both ears? I was much better on the right ear, but could do the left one in a pinch. I would try to get some checks in today, if you can.

Your color coding legend along the top of your world sheet looks a bit off. For instance,
5.5 or below would be green
5.6 to 11.1 would be blue
11.2 to 16.6 would be yellow
etc

Forgive me if these numbers are a tad bit off... go ahead and recheck them by multiplying by 18. I'm at work now, so can't be too precise at the moment.

Re: Maverick AMPS 277.2 1.0unit day 2

I am among the majority of people here who cannot interpret your SS if it's in mmol/dL. Unfortunately, unless someone can direct you to a working version of the spreadsheet that has tabs for both World and US numbers, you'll have to enter both US and World #s and manually adjust the color coding. I'd also suggest you keep close to the color coding of the SS we all use. Having a yellow/orange for numbers below 100 is typically green and we make reference to the color coding all the time. It will be confusing for you and for us. The reality is that there are several of us who look at everyone's SS on a daily basis. Having a standard convention for the SSs makes it much easier.

For testing it is imperative that you get a pre-shot test every time you plan on shooting. At minimum, you also need to get at least one spot check per cycle.

Re: Maverick AMPS 277.2 1.0unit day 2

Hi Karrie...can you include the US SS in your signature since that is the one that we will be using here on the forum?
Your last condo: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=28812
Randi talked about how she did the two SSs in her signature if you missed that last post in the linked condo...

Please look over the starred sticky at the top of the page, new to the Group: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=18139
You will find information abut doing a curve in that sticky along with other important information.

I hope you can get past that dream... LOL...my goodness, it is intense in the beginning and it spills over to our sleep time, right? You are dong a great job!
Just wondering if you have High Carb gravy canned food on hand. You will read about the Hypo tool kit in the above sticky and we ask that you have 18% HC gravy food on hand at all times....along with karo syrup. That is good that you will be able to monitor maverick today...and please, do get at least one test during the PM cycle...a before bed check at the very least. If you can test more, then that would be great. The more data you have, the better we are able to see how Maverick is responding... :thumbup

Re: Maverick AMPS 277.2 1.0unit day 2

I forgot all about linking to two separate spreadsheets. I'll just link to the US spreadsheet and update both spreadsheets at the same time. One for my vet and one for you guys. No worries there at all. I'll have it fixed in a few minutes.

I have a hypo kit. There was a week between diagnosis and insulin so I had the ability to read a ton and get prepared.

Thanks guys.

Karrie

Re: Maverick AMPS 277.2 1.0 unit day 2, 255 +6

Only did a +6 today. I think this mornings four/five attempts made me a bit shell shy.

Tomorrow I will do a more detailed tracking. Every two or three hours. The shed will have been built up more so maybe the numbers will change more.

I wonder if I'm warming his ear too much. I get a lot of blood sometimes - where it doesn't just pool but goes onto my hand. I wonder if this will cause a lot more bruising/healing. I don't hit the vein but between the vein and the outer ear. I'm using a warmed up rice sock and I pet him all over with it and massage his ear with it too. He will clue in that rice sock means ear stab, but then yummy purebites come after.

Re: Maverick day two - messed up food choice carbs!

Found out why his numbers are higher than I thought. I messed up :( :( :( I went to double check Binky's list and I got the wrong kind of chicken dinner by Presidents Choice. I got Chicken Dinner (purple) with wheat gluten. So I expect its high in carbs.

I'm going to exchange them all. No wonder he is eating this well. Normally he would only eat Turkey and Giblets and I wanted to take advantage of his diabetic strong appetite to get him trying a new food in case he decides he won't like Turkey and Giblets. He's a very picky eater. I messed up darnit.

So back to Turkey and Giblets. We'll give Liver and Chicken a try next. I hate that the fat content is so high. But he has to maintain 15+ lbs (he's already lost 4.5 pounds this year with the switch to wet food and recovered from FHL once two years ago). So the lower calorie options don't cut it for him without kibble supplementation.

I feel stupid for messing up the food. Don't know how high the carbs were in the chicken dinner its not listed on Binky's page.

So PMPS is 286 - gave him the 1.0 unit. Then fed him a bit of LC Turkey and Giblets. We'll see what tomorrow brings for testing.

(((Kelly))) I am so sorry about the mix up. Once thing I have found (of course, through the mistakes I have made too) is that I have to really focus when I shop for cat food that I am not familiar with. It is SO darn tricky, isn't it? The colors, the wording...oh, one has to be super careful...
(ok, I admit that I printed out he Binky chart and have it in my car!!!) Yep,, I bring it into the store with me now....
We'll see what tomorrow brings. I bet Maverick is looking pretty smug and well fed....they just LOVE those carbs!!
