Lucy recently had a bout of pancreatitis, which was caught early and treated successfully. The vet said she has IBS, which is likely causing most of her recent issues. They put her on the canned Royal Canin Selected Protein PV (venison). She's been on it for a few weeks now and the itchiness/scabs she had on the back of her ears from what we are guessing is a food allergy is gone, she seems to feel much better and is less bloated.
My concern with this stuff is of course that it is very high carb. The vet told me to keep her on it for another two months, and that other venison foods are out right now because they are not as 'tightly controlled' as the PV. My question is if that is really necessary, or if she can be switched over to a food with venison as a protein only (such as Ziwipeak or Lotus, two I've been able to find that don't include other types of meats). I am worried about causing an IBS flare-up by switching her over and if she just needs to stay on the Royal Canin, but this is unfamiliar territory for me with her (IBS).
