Reagan is a senior Maine Coon (mix?) facing possible euthanasia in Bellflower, CA. Here is his Petfinder page, where he is courtesy posted by Maine Coon Rescue.

An email I got last night from the contact person on Reagan's Petfinder post.

The vet will not keep Reagan Maine Coon anymore, and is now telling this senior lady she has a $2600 vet bill. She's not worried about the bill, she does not have the money to pay it. The office manager that used to work there told her not to worry about it, they would try to make it an office cat.

However, she is concerned about where to take the cat. Can you help? She doesn't want to take him to the shelter. I have no room myself and am paying to board a cat because I don't have space here.

We'd appreciate any help.

Thank you,
Denise

If you can help Reagan, even if just by crossposting his plight, please do.

Jacob is doing wonderfully. He is adjusting to the loss of his BFF and companion, Franklin. Jacob is very affectionate and enjoying extra cuddles with me. He is very generous with his hugs.

His feline diabetes continues to be controlled with diet. Spot-checking his BG gave me a very pretty 70!
His heart is doing well, and he is still plump, glossy coat and in good health. He is getting along well with his new roommate, Artorius, although they do not have the same closeness Jacob had with Franklin.

Jacob really stepped up to the plate last Sunday for our first pet therapy session without Franklin. Jacob was very gentle and affectionate, laying quitely and enjoying the attention of all the residents. He was hugely popular there and it was wonderful to have he and Christopher do so well and fill in the void left by Franklin's passing. Jacob even allowed Christopher to snuggle with him and reassured Christopher the few times he began to show anxiety in the Alzheimer's section, just like Franklin used to do!

We just got Yoda's blood work back today - and he finally has a clean bill of health!!!! No more anemia dancing_cat

He continues to be diet controlled, but will need constant monitoring since he is prone to inflammation and/or infections in his mouth. The inflammation of his gums is currently under control, but he may need 1-2 rounds of clindomyacin each year to keep it at bay.

He is a very affectionate kitty. He will talk to you and give a light touch to your arm or leg when he is hungry. If you don't feed him soon enough he tries to eat plastic  He loves laying in the sun and playing with his mousie. He is great with other cats, dogs, and strangers, but make sure they are ok with an outgoing cat! He will sleep at our feet most nights, and likes to climb in my husband's lap while watching TV. He is a great kitty with lots of purrrsonality!

well, we have good news, bad news.
twinkie
has been on 5mg prozac since the first and he is no longer licking his back legs and is not as sensitive to touch with the rippling. yea!!!. maintaining eight. more affectionate and inquisitive since on prozac. continues with .75U insulin and cannot seem to go lower yet. sadly, he started scratching his neck. applying benadryl cream and wrapping and started on benadryl tabs. this seems to be helping a little but we will see. this is easier to deal with than the leg licking

beasle continues to loos weight and still purry but......
the other day, he stopped eating with his norm nom nom nom. mom said he was refusing snaks. ate breakfast with gusto this AM but refuses snak X2. very hard to pill but managed to get a pepcid in him. cannot figure out what is wrong cause acts fine otherwise. this came on all of a sudden.'
numbers good a but remains on .5u

Tawny is doing beautifully and has settled into her new foster home with so many other critters very well. She has the run of the house along w/her FD foster sister Tinkerbell and the neutered male civvies that stay inside more than outside.

Tawny is very very social, very loving and very smart! When she first came to live w/me I put her in her own room for a while; even tho she now has the run of the place she still thinks of that room as "her room". When she wants something (food!) she will come get me and lead me to her room, meowing at me the whole time. If I stop halfway, she will turn around, run back to me, meow, then turn and head for her room again. Remember how Lassie always used to come and get Timmy when she wanted to show him something? This is Tawny, the Lassie cat!

She continues to surf the mid 200s w/her BGs, sometimes dipping into the upper 100s. She is currently getting 1u BID of Lantus. She is easy to test and easy to hoot, altho w/all that beautiful long hair sometimes I fear she gets more fur shots than real shots!

Tawny seems happy and healthy and is not at all anti social. She is a bedtime cuddle cat who loves sleeping next to me and what is usually about 6 other cats all up on the bed over night.

update on Beasley
seems as though he does not like water mixed in with his food anymore. so eliminated mixing with water and he is eating fine now. smart boy too. when he wants to go outside, he goes and sits by the door. he seems to love it out there. twinkie can take it in small amounts
still remains good with no licking but cannot figure out the neck scratching now but seems to be getting a little better with anti itch shampoo (TY Hope) and benadryl cream in between shampoos. has not touched back legs.. hoping he will be even better once therapeutic dose of prozac is reached.
things looking better today

One down, many more to go!!!

dancing_cat WELCOME HOME ATLAS!!! dancing_cat

Atlas has found a purrmanent home with Blue. The folks at the Berea Animal Rescue Fund can not bear to part with this most special cat after all the effort they (especially Blue) put into bringing him back to health. DCIN will continue to help by coordinating Lantus donations for Atlas.

Atlas has gone through a remarkable transformation....just compare his 'before' and 'after'
photos.

Congratulations, Atlas, you are one handsome boy !!

And THANK YOU to Blue for adopting him.

Fantastic news on Atlas......

wishing him a long and happy life with Blue. Please send some new pics when you get them though. So happy he has a furever home.

DCIN Sponsored Cat Update - Sebastian Purrbox

Sebastian is readusting to my place after a few weeks at Auntie Venita's house, where he became fairly well regulated on split shots of levimir.

He's had his long awaited dental, and right now, other than his diabetes, he seems very very healthy. His coat is wonderful; he is a nice robust weight, bright eyed, and well adjusted.

He is still a little tricky as far as his numbers are concerned. He is on a low dose (.5 of lev, followed by another .25 in 2-3 hours) and sometimes it drops him pretty low (.e.g, 40s), even from a high-ish preshot (e.g., high 200s or even 300+). Other times he doesn't get that kind of drop. Don't get me wrong, he's well regulated, but it hasn't been possible to keep him reliably "euglycemic" all the time.

I don't have any new pics right now, but he is an adorable cat. I'm finding myself wanting to nickname him Panda or Orca because of his coloring. He's well adjusted.

He's going to be a very easy, darling cat for whoever steps up to adopt him.

I would like to see him go to someone who works at home or is retired, who has other cats. He does well with other cats. No hissing. Just kind of does his thing. The reason I'd like to see him find a home with someone who is retired or works at home is because of the split-shot thing. But it's not a requirement, if someone is willing and able to continue the shot schedule he needs.

I will try to get some new pics soon! Any advice on finding this guy his forever home would be appreciated. He is a very nice darling cat.

Yoda was posted yesterday on Daily Mews, Siamlist's weekly newletter to those seeking to adopt Siamese cats. Cats are only allowed one posting on SiamList, and Kelly did a wonderful job writing Yoda's posting.

Rescue placement: Wilmington, DE. OLM Catnip Cottage; Diabetic Cats in Need project. Contact [email hidden]. Yoda, male, age 4, 13
pounds, lynx point, wedge, has claws, indoors only, neutered. Yoda is up to date on his rabies shot and is FeLV/FIV negative. He does have an issue with a chronic mouth inflammation, which is currently under control. He just had a dental cleaning a month ago. Yoda is a diet controlled diabetic. He has been off insulin for 3 weeks now and will continue to need occasional glucose testing at home to check in on his numbers. He will need a high protein/low carbohydrate diet for the rest of his life, so he cannot be fed dry food ever. Yoda is very outgoing and people centered. He is fairly vocal, but more to convey his need for more food than to just hear himself talk! He loves to play, and can frequently be found romping by himself with his toy mouse. He sleeps at the foot of our bed and will sometimes curl up in your lap. Yoda currently lives with 2 other cats and 2 dogs. He mingles fine with everyone and likes to romp with my other cats. He must be in an environment where other cats in the household welcome interaction! We do not know how he is with kids, but would expect absolutely no problems. Yoda is our foster. He was an owner surrender due to his diabetes diagnosis. He came to us malnourished (due to his mouth inflammation), dehydrated, anemic, and on the verge of diabetic ketoacidosis. Since in our care, he has gained back 4 pounds of weight and has overcome all of his health concerns. He would be a great addition to any family. Pictures and blog entries about Yoda's journey can be found here:
