9/9 Esse AMPS 106

Yesterday's thread!

Yesterday's convo about needing to be more consistent with Esse's AM cycle snacks came at a good time. The PetLibro auto-feeder we ordered arrived! I have mentioned before that Esse is not very good about eating unsupervised--my hope is that we can train him to use the auto-feeder so he will more reliably eat mid-cycle snacks when we're not home. We will start by putting high-value treats/toppers on his pate in there so he associates the device with being 'worth it' to investigate. We'll probably also have to physically bring him to it at first, but it does make a sound so hopefully he'll eventually know to go to it when he hears the noise. Although I noticed that the ding it makes is VERY similar to the ding of the robot vacuum, which he hates, lol. Hopefully he's smart enough to tell the difference.

Sam and I have our first trip TOGETHER since starting Esse on insulin coming up in about a month. So if the training works and he does start using it, this will be huge for our peace of mind while we're gone.

Nice! Did you get the stainless bowls? Keep an eye on under the trays, it builds up with water under there and then I think contributes to it rotating incorrectly. I wish you could change the sound…

Yes! He used to have terrible feline acne, even with ceramic, so we're very careful about stainless everything.

This is really good to know. It opened to the wrong bowl this morning (we're using 2 of the 3 for his two snacks and the empty one is the one that it opened to)--we thought we just programmed it incorrectly, but maybe it was that?

It's weird, you'll have to play with what orientation you put the bowl in the feeder, like sometimes it pre-rotates. But it's usually pretty consistent once you have it figured out.

Ou! A new toy, how exciting. I have the same automatic feeder, it’s been the easiest to use so far. I always have all 3 filled so haven’t run into the wrong tray issue but I might’ve happened once when I added a single meal once. I hear it rotating randomly not at meal times, I’m guessing it only cools in one area so it has to rotate all the trays to keep them the right temp? Not entirely sure, but hopefully you can sort out the issue because of course it’s better to have the assurance the right one will open. Also, for the beep, not sure if it’ll help or hurt but you can set it to keep beep at intervals for 10 min after opening if doesn’t sense activity. I’ve never needed it because Binx runs immediately, but maybe I’d Esse isn’t quick to find it.

Let us know how it goes! And excited for your trip!!

Lol this is the conclusion we've also come to after exactly one day of use. He doesn't always eat an afternoon snack, but it can't hurt to offer one, and it would prevent whatever the issue was this morning.

Ooh I will double-check to make sure we have this turned on, we'll definitely need it.

Thanks for the tips!!

Worth it over the alternative of no meal possibly. Not sure if you left the sticker on in the middle, but I use that to orient myself/check trays. I always insert the tray with the words facing/legible from the front, then if anything is left I can tell which one. It would be so nice if they had little symbols at each to make it easier.
