Big surprise for us tonight. pmps was 76. Ate all his dinner. Snack at +2 and ate maybe half of it. Ate the other half around +3.5. At +4 I test and the first number I get is 29. It was the last strip in the bottle, so I opened another one and he tested 48. I tested again just to be sure and got a 39. (This number is in between the other two, so it is the one I am going with)

He is acting so much better tonight. More bright eyed, playful, and he isn't walking around like his ears are bothering him. Probably has something to do with starting his ear drops last night. Tonight was the second dose of those.

I am assuming as per the general rules for otj trials that since he dipped low tonight on 0.1u that we should try no insulin tomorrow. In hind sight, I think the low to mid 100's we got with no insulin right after his dental were probably a reaction to pain and general icky feelings. Do we have the go-ahead to start a trial, or should I keep with the 0.1u again tomorrow?

I would do a trial but first see if any bounce from this. sometimes I shoot through those first. WTG !! :thumbup . now, if someone would only talk to wheezer

woo-hoooo! i agree with dian. if yoda bounces, shoot through the bounce before starting an OTJ trial.
usually, i suggest starting a trial on the next green ps number...

good luck with the trial!

Here's my little writeup with instructions:

Test at your normal AMPS and PMPS times. Feed multiple small meals throughout the day as much as possible (small meals are less likely to overwhelm a newly functioning pancreas).

If he is green at your normal test times, no need to test further until the next "PS" time, just feed small meals and go about your day. If he is blue, feed a small meal and test again after about 3 hours. If his number is lower 3-4 hours after a meal, then his pancreas is working!

Post every day so we can monitor your progress and see if any tweaks are needed. It is not unusual for cats to get lots of blue during their trial, especially at first. Don't panic! You can always post for advice if you're not sure.

After 14 days of no insulin, we have a party!

Sometimes the trial doesn't work the first time and we have to give a little more support in the form of resuming insulin. It's not the end of the world if that happens, we just give him the support he needs. Our goal is a strong remission and it's better to take our time to get that than to rush into remission just to have it fail later on.

Good luck!

You have done such an amazing job with Yoda! I'm so new to Lantus, it's as hard for me to imagine shooting a 76 bg as it is to think of trying to measure .1u. If that doesn't earn an OTJ trial, I shudder to think what would.

Wow. Great work.
