Yesterday's Condo

Since there's not shot this AM, I noted Gabby's AMBG. We'll be off to the vet in a few minutes. I'm hoping that Gabby is the first procedure of the day so she will be back here relatively early. She was all snuggles this morning. I suspect that will change once I pick her up and put her in the carrier. I brought it out last night and immediately upon seeing it, Gabby went under the bed. I think that says everything about her feelings toward travel.

When Savannah hears the slightest noise from her carrier she takes off and does what we call "the protest move," she drops all of her weight to the ground and she is soooo heavy to pick up. Clever girls.

Sending happy dental vines to you and Gabby. I hope she is home in no time with a good report and a dazzling smile! Good luck getting her into the carrier on to the vet office. I have to take the 2 carriers out the day before if not earlier....I always feel so bad for them. But it needs to be done....it's the bet thing for her....keep telling her that! :lol:
I do so HATE Dental days....I hope yours is a good one...

I hope all went well with Gabby and her dental.
We are waiting for news on how everything went.

BTW, you forgot the "cough trick" when opening the carrier door. lol.
I would cough really loudly so they wouldn't hear the spring. :-D

A semi-update.

I'm waiting for Gabby's vet to call. The procedure is done and they think I should be able to pick her up in about an hour since they want to monitor her to make sure she's more fully recovered from the anesthesia. She needed 3 extractions. That's as much as I know for now.

Hey, Gabby, I got three toofies pulled when I went to the vettiebean last time...ouchie ouchie ouchie!! Didn't feel to good for a while, but I amz feeling much much bedder now that dem nasty toofies are gone. It's a goodz thing dat we have dat wet foodz to eat cuz that's the only thing I could eat! Hopez u feel better, my frienz!................Spot

Hope you get to pick up your girl soon. I'm sure she will be a bit groggy tonight. Spot was a trooper...slept for a little bit, had a little bit of food here and there, and the next day he was ready to roll. Hope Gabby has just as good a recovery!!!

Cyn - I doubt that she'll let me brush her teeth but you never know. I think the vet was surprised. She thought maybe Gabby would need one extraction. I'm really wanting to know what was going on.

well three isn't that bad .. mocha needed 8 and had already lost one on her own ... I bet gabby is going to feel a lot better if she had some bad teef going on!

Oh boy, extractions! I am glad they were discovered and are out now; here's hoping we see better health now!
Shadoe just had one molar out on her dental, but she was pretty good and ate shortly after getting home. I hope Gabby is just as quick to recover.

Poor Gabby. I bet she's going to have a sore mouth for a couple of days. It's well worth it though to get those bad toothies out. Bet her numbers will improve now too. I hope she feels OK when she gets home and just rests up.

IIRC, it's not uncommon for kitties to go down a bit with dose after a good toofus cleaning. The toothpaste has a little sugar, but is poultry flavored, so Cosmo just nom nom nommed while I furiously brushed.

I got a baby toothbrush. i tried the pet one (with bristles on both sides) but I didn't like it. The first week, I just held the toothbrush and rubbed it against the outside of his cheek. Then, for a few days, i put some toothpaste on it and let him lick it off. Then we started brushing. It's hard to get the ones in the back, but he was a trooper!

We're home. I have one stoned kitty. The vet opted for a Fentanyl patch rather than bupe. She's tolerated Fentanyl before without a problem. They did crown amputations on two teeth (front canine and a premolar) both of which apparently had cracks -- both of the upper canines wih exposed nerve and the other involved tooth was a back molar. The vet said that the molar and the canine with root exposure were probably causing her substantial pain. There was also a good deal of tartar -- a lot more than what they saw in visual inspection during Gabby's annual check up. Behaviorally, they said she was not happy to be there when I arrived but she was quiet. And then the rest of the cats of the day arrived and they were screaming. From what the nurse told me, Gabby clearly decided that she'd had enough and wouldn't let anyone come near her. Her BG spiked to about 390 pre-procedure.

Gizmo is being a good boy and leaving her alone to settle down. I've got about an hour before PMPS.

Thanks for the well wishes and for checking in on us. The bean had a pretty sleepless night!

I'm glad your baby girl is home... poor baby! I remember bringing home a glassy eyed grey toothless kitty who hid in the closet... I hope she feels better soon.

Ouach on the dental, but exposed root is very painful (for humans anyways).

I'm glad that is over with, and I bet Gabby is too. It's really good that they took care of those cracked teeth. I hope Gabby is out of lala land soon and heals quickly.

Wow - 3 extractions! I can sympathize since Kasha just had 4 or 5 (they said 5, but I swear it says 4 on the bill - I'm not questioning it too much).

I hope Gabby recovers quickly... Poor baby. At least she has good meds!

I'm glad she tolerates the patch, I've heard good things about it. I guess with that post BG level, you really don't have to worry too much about the anesthesia nom-nom-nomming. I hope you two are resting comfortably. cat_pet_icon
