12/23- BEAR +7 40

I’ll support whatever you want to do, Vanessa, you can shoot 0.1u tonight, or as always I’m here for you, tomorrow morning we can start fresh with that dose, and pretend tonight was a fur shot.

Here’s a pic of 0.1u, you’d just draw up a little to the 0.5u line, then squeeze out some drops to 0.25u then probably another drop to 0.1u.

Is it terrible if i dont shoot? Lol i kinda wanna get the hc/sugar out of his system to know what hes real # is

No it’s not terrible at all, remember the HC canned food / syrup is gone now, that was many hours ago. What might be interesting to see is whether he continues to slide down tonight without a shot. Plus that drains the previous 0.5u depot. If he’s gonna continue the bounce you won’t see much improvement in BG until the bounce breaks, and it will be evident tomorrow he’ll need that 0.1u.

Lots of exciting times here today! BTW, I have seen a caregiver give a lot more syrup than you did for a first low number, so don't worry about it. It's all part of the learning curve. Glad Christie was around to help you out.

reading it again it definitely says a tsp of gravy and a few drops of syrup.. which is what kim said
If it makes you feel better, the first time we saw <40 logic and memory went totally out the window and I gave him a TABLESPOON of honey in a little wet food. He barfed like ten minutes later (which I now understand is not uncommon with that much honey) and I tried again with a smaller amount, lol. The panic was real.

Oh my goodness I would have been so shook if he threw up 😩

Its true, the panic really does set in and everything youve prepped for goes blank lol i still feel like my nervous system is in shock lol to be fair i think theres somewhere that suggests a tbsp of honey for something.. i was scouring the stickies and just kind of half reading whatever my panicked mind could take in at the time lol

I think it would be ok to try 0.1u and see how he does, especially if you can watch his cycle today. The main consideration in trying to get to remission is you want to see numbers overall under 100, with only an occasional number in 100-120, but mostly in the range of a healthy cat which is 50-80 before stopping insulin. Sometimes kitties need a little bit of support to get into that range. In most cases when we stop insulin too soon, and kitty hasn’t yet achieved more consistent numbers in greens, it can happen that insulin needs to be restarted and it really is like starting over again. Unfortunately there really isn’t any way to predict what Bear will do.

That looks pretty good I think. Yes, your entry on the SS is right :). I’d check at +2 and see if he needs a little extra carb at that point, then we can go from there.

That was my mistake 🤭 newbies here! I thought under 50 was considered a hypo! Either way, a shock to my system lol now i just feel silly all the way around! 🤪

He used to get a food bump for his regular LC, but it seems less these days 🤷‍♀️ i guess i was worried food wasnt enough to bring him up alone
It’s ok. No worries. It happens to us all at the beginning.
