Hi,

I got the blood results for Theodore. I am a little worried as it seems his RBCs slightly declined although moreless within normal range still. I did not check urine yet for UPC. His glucose as mentioned has been uncontrolled since starting antibiotics.

His results revealed that 1/2 blood parasites he tested positive for has went away but other one still shows up. I did read that sometimes you might always be a "carrier". The vet and internal medicine specialist weren't shocked but said it's up to me regarding if I want to put him back on antibiotics as it's unlikely his issues today are because of the parasite. She did suggest putting him back on Pettinic.

Theodore's been difficult with food as he's been feening the Purina DM which I hate giving him but he won't eat his dry. This is causing me difficulty in control his glucose. The only positive about the DM is he is putting on weight.

I am concerned about his UREA being high. She said it could be due to his high protein diet, diabetes, dehydration...not necessarily kidney related if I understood correct...

My questions is as follows:

1) Should I recheck CBC within a month to monitor anemia if he is acting fine? (he is acting fine today, he woke up at 4am as he was fighting through the window with an outdoor cat)
2) Should I get urine sample to check for UPC, she said she wasn't as concerned I believe due to the Albumin and protein in blood? I'm confused.

My next steps:

1) I plan on getting a new batch of fancy feast as I am not sure why he is boycotting the cans I got recently.
2) Checking glucose more frequently - trying to do a curve today

From yesterday
He usually doses off around 11AM and sleeps until about 2-3PM when he asks for a meal
when is "2-3PM" in terms of plus hours after the shot? I suspect he's losing duration with the late cycle carby snacks. That could be why he's zooming up into PS and dropping fast at onset.

Looks like today is a bounce cycle, still from a couple nights ago. Not the best cycle for a curve. I'd abort the curve and try another day. Pick a day when his +2 is down from preshot. Did you get an AMPS test today?

The top of your spreadsheet says the meter is the FSL3, I though you were back to using the AT?

I wouldn't worry about one blood work result, but more the trend. See what the next one says. I'd also get a urinalysis to see if there is protein in the urine. If so, then a UPC ratio could be done.

Which FF is he eating? Seems even more of them have fish added in the ingredients now.

Hi Wendy,

His 2-3PM is +5-6. Should I be giving him a heavier snack than around +3 as that seems to be his low points.

I did get the AMPS test today but earlier than usual which was high (328 +10)

I am using the FSL3, I just ran out of strips today which I didn't notice but I will buy some tonight before his evening shot. Funny enough I got the ALT3 strips now but I want to save them for "double checking".

Would you say a month is a good amount of time to recheck or would you wait longer for bloodwork? Just getting expensive. This time cost me $450 as I was checking all values including kidneys. I knew it wouldn't be perfect as his numbers all over the place and DM isn't helping. He was also getting hard poops prior to bloodwork so I know he was dehydrated but we were transitioning from diarrhoea during and after antibiotics to going back to normal...I am sure this is impacting his glucose and UREA all together. I am giving him hydrate pouches in the meantime as well.

He used to love FF Chunky Chicken or Liver and I would occasionally give FF Ocean Fish Pate, Cod Pate, Flaked Trout. He is snubbing his nose at chicken now and he's really only eating trout. I am wondering if this is a batch issue so I will be running to Petsmart to get a different batch as well.

I think you could go a month on the blood work, especially since the vet wasn't concerned.

Theodore seems to like big drops early in the cycle, a bigger +3 might be worth an experiment.

The comment about you using the Freestyle shows on the World version of the spreadsheet, but not the US version.

@Wendy&Neko Sorry I am not sure I understand, what do you mean a bigger +3 might be worth an experiment? I will update the US version. I got the freestyle strips tonight :) I will be updating his bloodwork in proper charts over the weekend. He's had so many bloodwork tests I will need time. Poor Theodore has been through so much. I feel like a lot of vets feel like it's worth giving up because he's FIV/FELV but he's regressive FELV ....My vet is still helpful so I am thankful. We are just scared to restart antibiotics because it's chaos on his GI. I might have to start him on clavamox soon as he's been sneezing. :(
