Misty has been bouncing a lot and had a couple of dose reductions lately. I missed her mid cycle test today because I took the kids to the beach. She was high, so I felt it was ok. The kids have missed out on a lot, including holidays, because I’m always looking after Misty.
I’m starting a new job next week and will be away all day. I can’t stay home if she goes low to monitor her. I will be working from home sometimes, but probably not when it suits Misty! I can get the vet to try putting on another libre to at least help with the monitoring even if I’m not there, but the last one failed because they bent the filament and they have to sedate her. This has turned me off. I also was unhappy with her care when she was there all day last time (no food and no glucose monitoring until 2pm and she was coming off 2 hypos in 2 days).
She does need a follow up blood test for borderline anaemia, which would also require sedation. I’ve been putting that off due to the stress it causes Misty and me and because I wanted her more stable before going back to the vet.
I’ve also left it too late to get an appointment before I start my new job because of the stress, but should I try the libre again? I managed to buy one for $92. The vet charged twice that (and $200 for sedation).
Any other ideas on how to manage when I’m away all day would help. I do have an auto feeder.
Thanks for reading my long post.

Hi Rowena,
I hope you all had a lovely day at the beach today. It was a lovely sunny day and warm for this time of the year. Which beach do you go to up there?
How would putting another libre on Misty help if there is no one there to monitor it?
You seem to be managing really well now with the testing.
Hopefully she will settle down with the 2.75 units. How long before you have to leave the house will you be giving the insulin?
Will you be able to get a +2 for example before you leave?
Do you think she will eat out of the feeder? I would put at least 2 maybe three snacks in there for her.
On the days she is really low, you might just have to skip the dose if you are going to be gone all day.
Is there anyone, a neighbour perhaps, who could come in a feed her during the day?

Hi Bron
It was a lovely day. Perfect weather. We go to Dutchies Beach at Nelson Bay.
I guess the libre would give me data to see what she’s doing and I got a libre2 which apparently alerts your phone if you’re low. I would still be at least half an hour away, but it may give me peace of mind.
She has used the feeder before, so I think she will again. I simply left food out today and that was fine. She ate it. The trouble was we got home too late to be sure she had not eaten 2 hrs pre shot and she was hungry but had to wait an hour for her shot.
I am currently giving insulin at 6am, so I could conceivably get a +2 in before I leave. However, I’m not exactly sure of my start time or how parking etc will go, and I’ll need to go out by 5.30pm at the latest on Friday afternoons, so I’m not sure how that will work. It’s such a juggling act.

Beautiful spot

Worth a try then.

That would be good if you could but I’m sure it is a big juggling act with cat/kids and against the clock.
All you can do is the best you can. Some days will work out better than others. Just try not to stress about it when it goes a bit pear shaped.
