11/5 Leo pmps 195 or 229 reduce shot?

Leo’s pre-shot number was a good bit lower than we are used to seeing. The first test was 195 and I retested and got 229. Even at 229 that is lower for him. I was afraid to do the 6 units because #1 it’s at night and #2 I don’t want to cause a bounce. Looking at today I think we may have gotten a bounce from the AM injection. When I get up at night to test him, he does eat when I do that so he isn’t going all night without eating.
I did 5 units instead of 6. Is that good? It just said a reduced dose so I wasn’t sure how much of a reduction to make. He was under it right at 200 (depending on the test) and it is definitely lower than we normally see on a regular basis.
I’m just excited that his pre-shot is low enough for me to even question it!!!

Because you shot a lower than normal Preshot BG I would get a+1 anda+2 to start with. This cycle will still be influenced by the 6 units you have been shooting, even though you reduced the dose.

Thank you! Right now would be +2 and he’s running around playing with our kitten. He usually drops the lowest it seems around +5-8. Is a 1 unit reduction what I should have done?

I would still get the +2 so you know what happening. And I would also give a small low carb snack now.
You could probably have shot the 6 units as you gave 6 unit’s this morning with a preshot of 239. However you must do what you are comfortable doing.
He hasnt earned a reduction in dose so I would go back to the 6 units if the next preshot is high enough, you can monitor the cycle, and he hasn’t earned a reduction in the meantime.

I just checked his +2 and it was 234 so pretty much inline with his pre-shot which was 229. I also fed him Sheba with 3% carbs at his pre-shot.

Yeah, if it weren’t at night I would have done the 6 units. I didn’t want to chance it. I plan on doing the 6 units in the morning unless we are lower than 200. I will also do a +5 on him tonight at least since that is when he usually drops some. Since we did get a 94 once on a lower dose I just didn’t want something to happen overnight.

It was really the first test that was 195 that made me do the reduction. Just in case that was closer to the real number. Hopefully we will have a night of blues *praying*

I would definitely get a test in before +5 because a lot can happen between preshot and +5 amd if he does drop lower, you can intervene.

I do understand why you gave a lower dose…….you are still new to this journey. I freaked out big time at my first lower preshot!

Just to give an update. I did a +7 and it was 309. I fed him Sheba with 3% carbs and called it a night. This morning at the amps it was 301 and I did 6 units. That 301 is close to what we have been seeing. It seems his numbers go down toward the end of the cycle. I read somewhere that some cats do that. He seems to either get a little higher or stay the same until the +5 mark and then it goes down from there.
Hoping today are blues & greens!
