My Missy has refused to eat anything at all today. She ate a decent amount of dinner last night with her last dose of insulin shot. This morning she ate only a few bites of breakfast with her morning dose. This is very unusual for her, because she always seems to have an appetite. I've even tried to give her one of her favorite treats and she only sniffs and walks away, same with food. She is drinking a fair amount of water but noticed she isn't using the litter box as normal either.

I spoke to her Vet this afternoon about the situation and they told me to skip dinner dose of insulin if she didn't eat, and to call back tomorrow if still no appetite. Its very late and I've tried everything I can think of to try and get some food in her, but no luck and I'm very very concerned.

I unfortunately don't have the funds at the time to make a trip to the emergency vet and as mentioned previous in other post she isn't scheduled to get another Libre until Tuesday and I don't have any at home monitoring tools until then as well.

I feel terrible! I just want to be able to help my baby girl and I feel like I'm failing her! I just want to be able to give her the best care and treatment. She's only been diagnosed for about a month now and I am fairly new to this. Is there anything I could try to do or give her to help get her to eat some?

The last time she pooped was yesterday
No history of ketones, and currently working on getting the strips for testing.

I will check into the list to see some more suggestions!

Hi Brittany

Do you remember when Missy pooped last?
Does she have a history of ketones? Do you have ketostix at home to be able to test her for ketones?

Maybe there is something here that you haven't already tried:
How to Stimulate Kitty's Appetite

I don't have any at home monitoring tools until then as well.

You can get a Relion Prime Or Premier meter for $9 at WalMart, strips are $9 for 50, $17.88 for 100 and a box of lancets is $1.56 (The Prime is currently out of stock at my local store but that doesn't mean it is at yours....just make sure whichever meter you get, you get the matching strips)

Urine ketone test strips are $6.64

So you could get everything you need to test her BG for less than $20 and to include the strips to check for ketones would bring it to a total of less than $30.

Without knowing more about what's going on with her, we really can't be very helpful.

You might try some meat only baby food like Gerbers or Beech Nut

Thank you for the information. I am definitely working on getting those items.

I understand there's not much information to give right now without those things and I appreciate all the tips.

Hi Brittany, im sorry you are going through this frustration of not eating. I hope missy has eaten since your post. Other than the medical advice from your vet and others, the magic solutions i found were: inaba churu appetite stimulator and freeze dried chicken pieces ( i used pure bites. I DONT KNOW whether these are diabetic friendly etc. i just know that Lando is REFUSING to eat on and off, they helped. ALSO miritaz appetite stimulant gel was a lifesaver.
Hope this helps and double check my advice since i am a super newbie

Thank you everyone again. I spoke with the Vet this morning and the Dr said we are through the worst! She is clear of any ketones, her electrolytes are where they need to be, sugars are under control, and her appetite and drinking are getting back to normal. The Dr is keeping her tonight again just to make sure nothing changes, and once the Dr sees her in the morning, she can come home tomorrow!
