I will be praying for you and Saoirse. I am so glad you have an opthamolgist close and that she is concerned about keeping up the care for her other health needs while she is there.

Thank you all for being here, for your messages, and for your prayers and positive, healing thoughts for my girl. I wouldn't be holding together this much if I was alone.
:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

I'm so grateful that the vets and the nursing staff at the hospital are so good and so kind. There's a positivity and a warmth to the atmosphere in the hospital. It has 'a strong pulse'. The place Saoirse went for tests last year had a cold, sterile feel to it. Given that she needs to be in hospital I feel better about her being in one with 'a good heart' and not one of 'steely intellect'.

I managed to get some desperately needed sleep; I was stupid with exhaustion earlier. Still very, very tired. I tried to force some food down but didn't get very far with that; couldn't chew and swallowing was difficult.

I couldn't agree more. It's one of the things I like about the ER vet we use - we have a choice of 2, but we always pick the one where the staff are warmer with both owners and pets even though they're 5 minutes further away. They may not realize it, but it really does make a difference to how comfortable we are leaving any of the cats there when necessary. If you have time for another hour or two to sleep before you have to leave to be near Saoirse today, maybe you can just nap for a little while as I know it's still very early there. I may not be on too late tonight - there's a virus doing the rounds in our house so we've been trying to stay warm and watch movies and relax, but our thoughts and prayers will be with you for the coming day. :bighug: :bighug: :bighug: :bighug: :bighug: :bighug:

Nancy is right. Do you have something Across The Pond that equates with our "Instant Breakfast"? It's basically a milkshake with vitamins. That stuff is good to keep on hand, (It comes in powdered form over here, little envelopes), and it beats choking on food when you're stressed.:cat:

@manxcat419 - I'm sorry to hear about the virus. I hope you all feel better very soon. I'd like to try to get a bit more sleep - if it will come; my body certainly needs it. I hope that you will get a good night's rest. :bighug:

Thank you Mogs - it's nothing serious at all, fortunately...just one of those nasty head colds that always for me wipes out my sinuses and throat for a few days. It's more uncomfortable than being really ill. I hope you manage to get a little more sleep so that you're refreshed and recharged ready for when Saoirse comes home. :bighug: :bighug: :bighug: :bighug: :bighug:

If you can try to drink something, sometimes when you are so worried chewing and swallowing is just too much. It is so hard to have to leave them at the hospital, I will be worrying with you.
Thank you so much, Nancy. It means so much to me not to be alone with this. :bighug: I really did want to get the food into me earlier so I can be strong for Saoirse but I just couldn't get it down. I've got a jug of water here and I'm drinking that. My mouth is like sawdust with the worry. I'm sitting here cuddling our tiger blanket.

.

If you can get hold of some Complan, Mogs, that might help as it's just a drink. My aunt used to swear by it if she was feeling too ill to eat. Most major supermarkets should have it, and a lot of pharmacies stock it too. :bighug: :bighug: :bighug: :bighug:

That's a good idea, Jeanne. You're right in your suspicions about the state of my tummy. Worry and fear always go to my gut. The weight has been falling off me for the last few days and I think I now have a chest cold. We don't have Instant Breakfast but I am going to try to get some banana-flavoured milk. It's fortified with vitamins and it should be easier to get that down. Might try getting some fresh custard and bananas as well.

I managed to get the last available room in the hotel near the hospital. There is dinner and breakfast included. At times like this sometimes it helps if someone else puts a bit of food up to you. Maybe that might help me eat a bit. The girl that took my booking could not have been kinder or more helpful. She's saying a little prayer for Saoirse, too. I love my baby so much.

I've not been able to reply to all your messages, Jeanne, but I appreciate every single one of them - and all your advice and suggestions, too. Thank you for your warmth and your kindness. :bighug:

Oh my goodness... Lots of developments, hopefully all positive. I am in total awe of all you're doing and if there is any justice in this world you will see an upturn now.
I have zero specialist feline medical knowledge so I can only add my weight to the notion of the need to look after YOU... Totally support the idea of Complan or similar. I'm sure all chemists would stock it. We are what we eat and so you need all those vitamins and minerals to keep you functioning at optimum level.
All paws firmly crossed...

Thank you so much, Diana. :bighug:

The flavoured milk, custard and bananas should be a help. They're the things I repeatedly fall back on when I get flare-ups of PTSD symptoms. My head is such a mess right now that I wouldn't have thought to get some without the suggestions here.

Passed out sitting up again.

Yesterday evening I was promised a call at 10-ish this morning. I'm nervous. I'm praying.

Update: Wednesday Morning
-----------------------------------

Just got a call from one of the vets at the hospital. He sounded quite positive on the phone. Saoirse has had a good night ( :) ) and she is much more comfortable now that she is getting her general pain relief and also they gave her something to ease the pain and swelling in her eye.

You cannot imagine just how relieved I am that Saoirse is getting pain relief. It was tearing me up inside the last few days when I could not get any help from the local vets about whether it was safe to give her the bupe. I had something just sitting there that could have helped Saoirse and the lack of safety information left my hands completely tied and afraid to use it for fear it might harm her ... I would not wish that predicament on anyone. :(

Now that Saoirse is more comfortable her blood sugar levels have improved and she has a nadir in the normal range. She was OK overnight. She is eating well. They will continue to monitor her during the day. I've told them that I will drop more food in later for Saoirse. I've also asked them to continue with the Cerenia for nausea management. I don't want her stressed out by someone trying to pill her with ondansetron.

I wish, wish, wish I could visit Saoirse during the day but, as agonising as it is for me not to be there to comfort her while she is poorly nor to see her before she goes in for her operation, I am firmly of the opinion that it is the best thing for Saoirse to have as calm and steady a day as possible. I want my girl to be as stable as possible ready for the opthalmologist to help her this evening. It means so much to me that she is with such conscientious and caring people who really know what they are doing.

STOP PRESS:

I just got a call from the opthalmologist. She advises that the eye meds Saoirse received last night have reduced the swelling a bit so I hope that helps my baby a bit while she's waiting for her operation. She also said that Saoirse is doing OK. I thanked her and told her how much it means to me to know Saoirse is in such good hands. She doesn't know what time she will be doing the op; it may be as late as 7pm tonight. She will call me afterwards. She said that Saoirse may need to stay in the hospital an extra night depending on the time of the op. I've told the specialist that I want Saoirse to stay under their nursing care for as long as she needs to (especially with her being diabetic). I am beyond grateful to be in the position to be able to afford the best care for my girl. If all this had happened a few years ago things would have been very, very different. <shudder>

Thank you everyone for being there for us. I would be grateful if you could continue to pray and send positive thoughts to Saoirse. I love her so much. I am so lucky to be her Person.

Mogs

EDITED TO ADD: I am very pleased with the way that the vets are working with me on Saoirse's insulin needs. They are showing respect for my experience in this regard and also my knowledge of Saoirse's insulin response and I very much appreciate it.

Oh yes, we CAN imagine how relieved you are that the pain meds are safe and are working, Mogs... We would all be the same, there is just nothing worse than seeing our babies in distress and us feeling powerless to do anything about it. It really sounds as if you/she have turned a corner! Try and stay calm during this waiting time and send positive loving healing thoughts to your baby...

Hi Diana,

I'm glad you're here, too. :bighug:

It was awful not being able to get the right help for my baby. If it weren't for the nightmare with the BP med I'd have known it was OK to give her the bupe. This has been a nightmare for both of us to go through. I am really angry that my girl had to go through that. I am angry that I could not get real help for her. As tough and uncertain as the current situation is, I was incredibly relieved leaving the hospital last night. I love my girl.

I must admit that when the vet called earlier than expected this morning it put the heart crossways in me. :nailbiting: It was such a relief when he said, "She's fine."

Saoirse is so fortunate to have such a loving Mom and such great support people all on her side. Checking in on you and Saoirse was the first thing I did this morning and I am so glad she was able to have a better night and is getting such top notch care. My heart goes out to you for having to deal with this whole nightmare, but you and Saoirse have got all the right people working for her.

Continuing to send a steady stream of prayers and healing vines for you and Saoirse . :bighug: :bighug: :bighug:

Thank you from both of us! (((Mary Ann)))

If I had known where to find them she would have had them on Friday.

.

I am so sorry you had to wait those extra days, but your persistence has brought you and Saoirse to the best possible place. You have done so much for Saoirse, but please continue taking care of yourself. Saoirse will need a healthy Mom when she gets back home. :bighug: :bighug:

:bighug::bighug::bighug:

I'm so glad you got some positive news and that Saoirse is more comfortable.
You were on my mind at work tonight. Massive amounts of prayers and healing vines coming today.

Hi Mogs. Marje asked me to check in on you. I'm headed for bed but wanted to introduce myself first. My kitty, Cinco, was diagnosed with glaucoma two years ago. He also had the Bartonella virus and lost sight in both eyes. One eye had a tumor on it, so it was removed. We continued to treat the remaining eye for the glaucoma, but it was so uncomfortable and stressful for Cinco, and we just couldn't get the pressure down, so I made the decision to remove that eye, too. What a difference it made! His BGs came down and he was a much happier cat.

If I can be of any help to you as you go through your kitty's recovery, don't hesitate to ask. It sounds like you have a fabulous team on your side already.

BTW, my other kitty, Harvey, was just diagnosed today with glaucoma in both eyes. We are hoping to save his vision.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.:bighug::bighug::bighug:

Mogs, I'm super happy you have found a great vet that listens to you. While I haven't had to work with this with a vet, I have had to find that experience myself and found myself firing a doctor because they would not listen to me and outright lied to me. Hugs.

:bighug:Wonderful news, Moglet! WONDERFUL NEWS! I hope Saoirse can come home with you asap. What a relief!

Let us all know how things work out with that doppler bp cuff. I'm very interested in how it works out for you both.:bookworm:

Good morning Mogs, just waking up to the happy news that Saiorse had a good night and much needed pain relief! Do take care of yourself, get some rest and nutrition so you can help your sweet girl in her recovery. Sending tons more healing vines and prayers for a quick and easy recovery:bighug::bighug::bighug:

It must be such a relief to finally have answers to your questions and to know that you're in the hands of experts that you can trust. You'll definitely be in our thoughts today as we pray for an easy, uncomplicated procedure and a short road to recovery. Stay strong!

@Tricia & Cinco & Harvey -

Thank you so much for your offer of help and for telling me about Cinco. :bighug: I'm sorry to hear Harvey has just been diagnosed. I am saying a little prayer that his treatment will be successful and you will be able to save his sight.

I will write more later. I'm a bit flappy at the moment - trying to get ready to go to the hospital. I will be staying in a hotel nearby so I will be close to Saoirse. I'll have my Wifi tablet with me.

Again, thank you from the heart.

:bighug:

Wonderful to hear Saoirse had a good night and you got a bit of rest. It's never easy to have our fur kids in hospital, but I'm sure knowing Saoirse had a more comfortable night has eased your heart immensely! Continuing to send healing vines and prayers!

Gosh, a lot has happened here in a short time...

Mogs, I'm so pleased that you had a good consult with the specialist, and that there is now a clear plan in place to help Saoirse.
Keeping fingers and paws (and everything else that is potentially 'crossable') crossed today for the best possible outcome.

Everyone on the forum is rooting for you both!

Hugs and prayers,

Eliz
