Yoshi - acrokitty need dosing advice

Hi everyone,

I need help with Yoshi.

I took him to the vet to check for a UTI and it was negative. He had trace keytones and I have been keeping them at bay with extra water in his food. He had a nice stretch of 200's yesterday, but is now back in the 400's. I read somewhere that if the dose is too high, the bouncing will keep happening. I am wondering if that is the case. Sometimes there is no movement in his numbers. I am testing as much as I can.

@Wendy&Neko any advice?

Here is my last condo and his spreadsheet is updated

Thanks,

Ah that looks pretty normal to me. Apolgies because I don't have time at the moment to read the history, but above 5U you can increase by 0.5U. I'd keep increasing by 0.5U every 6 cycles until you see blues (or can reasonably infer he's seeing blues based on tests). He's got some glucose toxicity so just have to stay on top of those increase until you hit a breakthrough (mine was about 14U but every ECID is like triply true for acro cats).

What Melissa said. Increases are by 0.5 units between 5 and 10 total units, unless you are just tweaking a dose seeing some green. Don't hold doses more than 6 cycles if you aren't seeing anything below 200. Especially since you are seeing hints of ketones, another indicator his dose is too low.

I read somewhere that if the dose is too high, the bouncing will keep happening. I am wondering if that is the case.
I wish this old chestnut would go away. :mad: If a person started on too high a dose, increases in too large amounts, or does not test to see how low the dose is taking the cat, it is feasible the dose is too high. Following either of the dosing methods we use here, not so much.

Thank you both for your response. Do you think I should increase to 6.5 tonight? He’s back in the lower 300s. He seems to nadar pretty late.

Tonight would be your 6th dose at 6.25U (I'm ignoring the 6f and calling it close enough). I would go up to 6.75U tomorrow morning.

0.25U increases at this point just don't pack much "punch", you'd probably barely see a wiggle in numbers. You still have 150+ points until hypo numbers, that's a huge cushion so I wouldn't worry about a larger increase being too drastic

It's not uncommon for acros to nadir later. And it doesn't matter when the nadirs are. We are looking for upper greens/lower blues on your AT. He's got a long way to go.

If you didn't want to deal with in between the lines, I think you'd be safe going to 7.0 units tomorrow. Note for any lurkers, this is a suggestion only for Jen and Yoshi. Normally we do increases by 0.5 units at this point, but I think it'd be OK to go up a bit more.
