Update: I woke up this morning once again to yellow, runny poop. I read online that that means indigestion due to an infection:

My wife and I are just getting through COVID. Is it possible she has an infection and it's upsetting her stomach? When I spoke to the vet yesterday, she said to just monitor the poop for a few days and see if it persists.

She still prefers the dry hydrolyzed-protein food, but will eat the wet if I spoonfeed it to her. And I have heard her go to the wet-food bowl hours later when she's truly hungry. She is indeed begging me for food even now, an hour before her typical meal.

Hi! Yesterday my cat Emma strangely didn't eat all of her wet food, and by the evening seemed to be preferring the dry. She eats a mix as I transition her towards wet food.

She's not typically one to turn down food. Eventually she did eat her evening meal including the wet, but i had to spoon feed it to her. I woke up this morning and saw that her stool was lighter in colour. She still had appetite, but especially for her dry food. She only ate about 40% of her allotted wet food this morning (again, by spoon feeding), so since I needed to shoot her I gave her the requisite calories in dry food instead.

Should I be concerned? I worry it could be an infection, since I just had COVID and now my wife has it. She has a tiny bit of gunk around her eyes, though it used to be she frequently had that. Other possibility: we had a mixup and missed a day of prednisolone so she got it one day later.

Any thoughts appreciated! I have to step out to work now but I will be around to inspect Emma's poop later.

No changes in her food that I’m aware of. Of course I was isolated in my room for 5 days and during that time my partner was taking care of her, but the diet hasn’t changed, as far as I know. What’s an IBD flare? Normally when Emma has IBD issues, she just vomits. None here.

I’m pleased she has appetite, just really surprised she is going for the dry food. Maybe she ate an old piece of wet food and now she’s hesitant ? Since it’s the second day in a row, should I perhaps try to give her a different wet food that she has accepted in the past? Only problem is it’s lower carb so I’ll need to monitor.

I fed Emma a wet snack from a different brand. She ate the first half with gusto, and I spoonfed her the rest. She seems to be in a good mood. I guess I'll continue to monitor stools and keep going with the different food for now. Thanks!

Do you test her urine for ketones? Vander's poop turned light, to a tan color. He stopped eating his wet food which he loves and would nibble kibble which he had been transitioned off of for a month. His blood glucose was normal (for him). His body temp was normal. He had ketones in his urine.

Thank you for sharing! No, I didn't test her urine for ketones, and she hasn't been tested since her diabetes diagnosis (through blood test and urine analysis) at the end of June. (Result: no ketones.) Frankly, I just don't know how I could possibly catch her peeing and get a strip in there, but I'll do more research, especially if her next stool is the same.

So far, she doesn't have any of the symptoms listed here:

The only signs that I saw were Vander's appetite changed and the color of his poop changed. The breeze litter system is great for urine monitoring because there's a tray to catch urine, you can just not put a pee pad in and then sample urine. Clean up is easy. Most local pet stores sell them. It's just something to think about.

I'll look into this - thank you!

Update: hunger for wet food is definitely back. She’s been begging me for food so I gave her even the original wet food and she’s eating it up. Maybe just indigestion, I guess!
