Window between meal and shot?

I just read elsewhere that it is recommended to give 30 minutes between the cat finishing a meal and the injection. Is this accurate? I have been giving the injection as she finishes the last bite of food, and it seems to be working well. Numbers were good. Any reason I should change the routine? Thanks!

Can you set up your signature with the basic info about your cat so that members can better help you instead of having to find older posts to get the info? The instructions are at the bottom of this thread: Sticky - New? How You Can Help Us Help You!

You're using Lantus so there is no window. Most people give insulin while the cat is busy eating. You can give insulin first and then feed. Or give insulin after your cat eats. Whatever works for you and your cat. Just always test the blood glucose level before giving insulin.

The 30 minute window applies to harsher insulin like Vetsulin and Humulin N, neither of which are now recommended for cats. Having food in the tummy supposedly softens the effect of the harsh insulin.

Thank you for the information. I was just online looking for the signature setup .. I’ll head to your link. I’d been on that page before, but forgot the signature was there.
