when to say goodbye?

I think one more opinion is a reasonable idea. I’m considering it for my cat. Trying to decide if I’ll just get a different vet at the same clinic, or collect his test results and try a different clinic. Problem here is this is a small town, not many vets to choose from. The 2 best (for what that’s worth) are the ones I go to and one that used to be in that clinic so she’ll probably treat the same way, sigh... Anyway my cat has a persistent ear infection. It started 2 months ago with constipation, that took 3 enemas and lactulose to clear. Then in the X-rays they saw arthritis in his hips, thought that may be part of the cause. Then we found an ear infection. We are on the 3rd treatment for that. He seems a bit better this AM, so fingers crossed the third times the charm!

I'm trying to follow you on 2 different threads Allison. I can't say anything medically, this is beyond me. I know losing Bubbles and now this is hard, I have been there too and it always seems to happen in pairs. I will tell you that we brought back Andrew from the edge with force feeding and determination. Of Noah's three brothers he was the big boy and his other name was Bright Eyes. Andrew came back to us and lived a good life, keep us informed. I'm blabbering now, have to go.

yes it seems beyond my medical knowledge too...my vets lack of knowledge also seems beyond my comprehension unless I am reading things online that are inaccurate ...my vet has 30 yrs experience....so I expected the expertise that would generally come with that...but...as I always say to ppl..there was that one person who did actually graduate at the bottom of the class....I am definitely considering further investigation with a new vet at this time...I may get nothing more than confirmation of my own vets opinion....

How old is Mor? Has anything like this happened before?
I know I've come close to wanting to strangle a few vets but cats and dogs can sometimes be bad patients, they can't talk back and put up with a lot of pain. Try and get some little bits of rest today whenever you can. You'll be able to state your case more clearly and absorb more info about Mor.
Fingers and paws crossed, hope all goes well with vet #3.

Allison did you ever post labs here? What are latest creatinine, BUN, white and blood counts if you know? :bighug: Sometimes CKD advances fast but there’s lots that can be done. My problem was the heart. One of mine with lymphoma lived with advanced CKD for a year and I lost her to the cancer. I’d geode more opinion too. Ask around your area for the best vet and if possible internist. Praying for a good result.

hi Tiff...yes I posted all his labs on Tanyas site...his crea was 181 Bun 14.8 and sdma 18...Canadian ....I might have got the crea and bun backwards but you get the general drift im sure...so his bloodwork was classified three weeks ago as stage 2....and vet said nothi g else was wrong in FULL geri panel except his amylase was a bit high ....1300 ....

Okay. Stage 2 I’m not so sure with creatinine 14.8 and BUN 181. Those numbers are high for that. ( You did get them backwards ) and makes me wonder if it is due to kidney infection or an acute kidney issue. With all else normal I’d definitely seek another opinion. A wise vet once told me to try everything so I had no regrets. He was so right.

How old is Mor?

dislexia..lol..i get things backwards constantly ...!...he already had a urine culture...it came up completely normal yesterday...same with the urynalysis two weeks ago....I thought those numbers were not higher than stage two....he had an ultrasound two days ago...nothing was found...he is nauseated all the time and shows pain and discomfort when he is not on Bupe....I do not know how many more opinions I should get...its almost like a possibly hopeless attempt to keep Mor Mor alive when the writing seems on the wall...I am not sure how much further I should take this...with cancer and infection ruled out....and ckd at 16...
and all othe bloodwork normal...what else is there?

Hi Dickson ...just saw your post...this is a very very sad day....I think Mor Mor will die from this disease...he is 16 in answer to your question and no ...nothing like this has ever happened before....he has been in more pain lately ...so sad I dont want to be alive today...usually I am much stronger than this ...I feel absolute despair at the moment. .but I will get over it...bye for now...

sry folks this has been a bit confusing as i just realized I am responding and texting on two seperate threads...not sure how to combine them...
