What if…. (Vacation paranoid idea)

I have a really hard time going on vacation because I don’t enjoy it I always think I wonder if Mimi‘s blood sugar is dropping so the only time I’ve ever gone away has maybe been for a total of 36 hours or so. I know there’s a vacation dose that I can put her on; my only reservation with that is having her blood sugar get out of whack and possibly getting a bout of pancreatitis and ketones increasing, because there was one time I left for about 36 hours- this was the first time I ever did that and I was instructed to start a vacation dose- half the dose at least three cycles before.
I left and it just messed her all up - her key tones went high and I had to give her subcutaneous fluids for a couple days. It’s possible I overreacted because the meter was reading 1.2 or something like that. Now that I think about it I think that that was too little of insulin for her and she just needed more.
Anyway, what I’m thinking is what if I keep her dose the same if I’m gone for a couple of days (I don’t know if I could go any longer than that without having a panic attack) and leaving her all high carb food that way I know she won’t get hypo- because that’s the biggest thing I worry about second being her not eating because she doesn’t feel well for some reason or whatever reason and ketones come back.
So that’s the question can I leave her high carb food since I know that she’s always been carb sensitive? anytime her blood sugar has dropped and I’ve given her the high carb food which is 15 and higher-her blood sugar always goes up.

thanks!

I did that for Minnie when I went home to Brazil last Xmas. I was super worried too and I didn’t want to overwhelm my pet sitter and I really needed her to focus on all the many meds Minnie was on daily. I gave her slightly higher carb food not super high. FF grilled which has about 12-14% and I also lowered the dose by 1/2 unit, which wasn’t a lot since Minnie was on 5.5. I ended up getting stuck there another week because of covid so I was really glad I did that. Minnie’s numbers were higher but not crazy high

Yes he did. His numbers were better and he even gained weight.
I can top any story about a nervous cat. Noah was one of four born just upstairs and was not the runt of the litter, he could have been the new alpha if he wanted. Instead he lived for years in our walk in closet like he expected to get beaten every day. We don't slam doors or play loud music so we never figured that part out. He had also never been crated, just went berserk. He had to be cocooned in towels and piddle pads for trips to the vet and I always gave him a 50/50 chance that one day he'd just expire in the car. That was something I had to show both the vet and the lead tech before I boarded him. The car ride issue was why he went with a DNR, he was already old and had cardiomyopathy with an enlarged heart so if the vet had to drive him 45 minutes to emergency what was the point.
That was borderline arrogance on my part giving a vet a big list of do's and don'ts but that's what I had to do. We already lost two in emergency because I didn't make a point about something, "You're not writing this down". Emergency here is a VCA clinic and I hate those people so badly. Having one cat die in the lobby, another on his first overnight trip and a dog get wrongly diagnosed with cancer (it was a stomach cyst) will do that to you.

I distrust VCA too. It’s a franchise and having briefly worked at one and seeing how the techs treated the animals there really turned my stomach. This one guy would kick this dog’s cage every time he walked by. Like why? This is a sick animal recovering, why on earth would you do that? Humans are assholes

So it's not just me? I've read how these guys started out, it's a good business model but they know nothing about animals. Our local emergency has their own MRI so they have all the shiny toys but have no soul. I just cringe at the thought of ever going there again. Our local hospital got an enormous makeover but now the corporate sponsor has their name plastered all over the place. Whatever happened to quietly donating instead of being a total media (rhymes with sore)? Next up will be concerts in the hospital parking lot with Katy Perry and it will be mandatory to clap or no service for you.
