Beautifully written, makes me want to cry and it's so true. The next FD at that shelter will be saved. DCIN proved that with my Ebony.
Connecticut Humane Society got to know Venita when they had a cat named Tiger that was going to be put down. V fought like the dickens to get HS to release this cat to a DCIN foster home. It took so many emails and different rescue groups even tried to help, but HS didn't seem to get it. After a few weeks we thought the cat was lost, but then they gave the okay to give the cat to DCIN.
Now they do get it, they immediately contacted DCIN when Ebony's bloodwork showed she was FD. Instead of putting her on the PTS list, they agreed to switch her diet to canned until I could get down to the shelter to get her. Due to my work schedule I could not pick her up until Good Friday, so she had a few days to wait, no insulin, but at least dry food was removed and they agreed to feed all the canned she wanted to eat.
The point, CT HS, both locations, will not put down an FD now, they will contact Venita first and see if we can find placement either through the members here and other places, as well as giving us time to find placement in a local no kill if need be.
I hope in the future no cat will ever need to be rehomed, but until then I'm grateful we have DCIN. Thank you Venita for starting DCIN and giving so much of your heart and soul to it. I know my Mr. Darcy (GA), Bean, Kiki and Ebony all thank you.
