Beautiful post, Venita, and well written. I'm still in tears over this whole thing not only for Molly but for Rainy too. Bless them both.

Beautifully written, makes me want to cry and it's so true. The next FD at that shelter will be saved. DCIN proved that with my Ebony.

Connecticut Humane Society got to know Venita when they had a cat named Tiger that was going to be put down. V fought like the dickens to get HS to release this cat to a DCIN foster home. It took so many emails and different rescue groups even tried to help, but HS didn't seem to get it. After a few weeks we thought the cat was lost, but then they gave the okay to give the cat to DCIN.

Now they do get it, they immediately contacted DCIN when Ebony's bloodwork showed she was FD. Instead of putting her on the PTS list, they agreed to switch her diet to canned until I could get down to the shelter to get her. Due to my work schedule I could not pick her up until Good Friday, so she had a few days to wait, no insulin, but at least dry food was removed and they agreed to feed all the canned she wanted to eat.

The point, CT HS, both locations, will not put down an FD now, they will contact Venita first and see if we can find placement either through the members here and other places, as well as giving us time to find placement in a local no kill if need be.

I hope in the future no cat will ever need to be rehomed, but until then I'm grateful we have DCIN. Thank you Venita for starting DCIN and giving so much of your heart and soul to it. I know my Mr. Darcy (GA), Bean, Kiki and Ebony all thank you.

I just knew I was'nt ready to read the story...but now I have the gist of it.
I am not strong enuf to face these stories...and am glad Venita is...and takes it on.
I would be too emotional about it.
So, FWIW, thank you Venita for doing what not everyone, even animal lovers, can do. Making a difference. Facing those horrific realities one after another.
I am indebted to you for your work...and want to be of any service no matter how menial I can if you ever ask.

Beautifully written Venita!

Molly's story could have so easily been Maxwell's story. For everything you do, Maxwell and I will be forever in your debt.

Dearest Venita,

You are a treasure.

Fly free, precious Molly! Wear your beautiful new wings proudly and soar high, pretty girl! Know you have forever touched many, many hearts...

In tears,
Deb and Nikki -- and, Giz, forever whispering in my heart...

Fragile Circle

"We who choose to surround ourselves with lives even more temporary than our own, live within a fragile circle, easily and often breached. Unable to accept its awful gaps, we still would live no other way. We cherish memory as the only certain immortality, never fully understanding the necessary plan."

Irving Townsend

But for the grace of a Humane Society Angel (Cheryl) Stevie would have been euthenized also. She did everything but give insulin (she had given insulin once, and a hypo had taken the poor little one) She refused to give another shot... I have to sympathize with her. But she found FDMB... she posted and several of us answered. and then she asked "Does anyone here, live in Minnesota?" This large bundle of long haired love has been ours for almost four years... Molly's legacy will save many more. As for her previous owner... can't call them a parent, and definately NOT a care giver.... Guilt will follow... I hope that he realizes his lack of action and deliberate lack of caring cost her a lovely life time of at least five or six more years.
