We switched Kit's food to Weruva Paw Lickin Chicken a few days ago, and now she is having soft and very smelly stools, which is not at all typical for her. Has anyone had this issue with this food? It's a shame because she really loves this food and seems more consistent-looking than Tiki Puka Puka (which we observed as having a gray look in the middle of the can-reached out to Tiki with no reply!) We started adding Fortiflora to her food yesterday, and sent her stool out for testing. Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

Any major change in food can have an effect on your kitty's GI system. FortiFlora isn't the best of protiotics. You might want to consider a human grade probiotic such as ReNew Life or any other reputable brand. You use about 1/4 of a capsule twice a day and can gradually increase up to 1/2 of a capsule BID.

Hmm! We were using human probiotic for Kit but our vet said that Fortiflora is made specifically for cats and so was better. Sigh....

Fortiflora only has one type of probiotic strain. The other probiotics such as the Renew Life that was mentioned has many more strains of probiotics.

Probiotics help to restore the beneficial gut bacteria, often killed off by antibiotics. You do need separation of the dosing between any antibiotic and the probiotic, or the antibiotic will kill off the good bacteria in the probiotic. Two hours? Sorry, my brain is "mush" today and can't remember the required separation.

Rocket has issues with Weruva's Chicken Frick a Zee, which is similar to the Paw Lickin' Chicken. I tried introducing it to him slowly, by mixing in small amounts with his regular Fancy Feast (trying to reduce phosphorus a little) but each time I tried he would get bad runny poo. Only ingredient that I think could be an issue is the sunflower oil, but I'm not sure.

I was told that some discoloration was normal. I don't know if you emailed or called, but I have been able to get someone on the phone @ TiKi CAT. I think if some of the other cat foods had less filler and gums to make the pate a different consistency- you would likely be able to see some slight discoloration too. The Tiki cat is really just chicken meat, broth, sunflower oil and then the needed supplements. I have noticed more discoloration in the other formulas that use the organ meat than I did in the Puka Luau but I guess it just depends.
I know sometimes the fiber content can affect the smell of stool also so maybe that is something to look at in the other diets...?
