Hi everyone! Today I took Gypsy to the vet for our first glucose curve just to figure out dosage, and to our surprise, she didnt need insulin. Vet gave her 1 unit and her levels dropped to 53.. so they had to quickly force feed her. Gypsy was just diagnosed this week and we thought for sure she needed insulin since her BG was 450 and she also had sugar in her urine and it was diluted.. Today they took her urine and said that it was concentrated at the right levels, tho i think there was still sugar involved.
Vet sent us home with instructions to just home test her, keep it logged, eat low carb wet diet (shes on ff classic now) and if her levels consistently start to go past 300 for over a week then give them a call. Vet says 70-200 is normal for her BG, and that she does not want to put her on insulin unless absolutely necessary, which seems fair. Overall it seems our vet is very relaxed about it, she doesnt seem too worried since in her words cat diabetes takes more time to manifest any serious issues. Is she potentially a borderline diabetic? Or maybe diet is actually helping? Its only been a couple of days. I'm just wondering if this is just a fluke?
