Was able to test Diesel FINALLY

Prozinc is a good insulin for cats. Teal'c was on Prozinc at first. He was just way bouncy on Prozinc, his numbers never settled down, so we switched him to Lantus. It took about 4 months on Lantus but now he has beautiful numbers.

I guess it sounds like it’s trail and error till you find the perfect one! But aw that’s good to hear.

Morning y’all!

Called my vet this morning to tell her about the insulin incident last night </3 I told her that I wanted to switch up my insulin and I told her why and it threw me off cause she said she had never prescribed Prozinc before which kind of threw me off?
She said she’s doing more research to double check on how much I need to give Diesel but on the phone she said 2 units and she said I’d need new syringes she used the term (I’d had to throw away the other ones) lol ok?

I just wanted to check with you guys first.

Also I’m noticing Diesel drink like excessively more and I can hear him slurping out his water fountain which I haven’t before.

Yes, Prozinc uses U-40 insulin syringes (40 units per ml), while Novalin uses U-100 (100 units per ml). Lantus (another of the recommended insulins) uses U-100, if your vet would be willing to prescribe that one. It can be pricey in the US, so a lot of folks here order from Canada (not sure on the current comparison shop on all the Prozinc+Lantus options right now, someone else might know).

You didn't shoot last night or this morning, correct? Can you get a BG test in anyway? I am interested to see where Diesel is on no insulin...

I’m trying to get a reading it I guess I’m not getting enough blood and he is fussy. Give me a few mins to try ans get one

I'm still waiting for my vet to fill the prescription...I still havne't heard anything AND I am calling around to find the right syringes, but having trouble
The only thing I was able to find at Wallgreens was 50 unit .5mL, 30 gage 8mm length

The U-40 syringes are for pet insulins (Prozinc/PZI and Caninsulin/Vetsulin), so human pharmacies probably don't carry them. You can get them from your vet, or else an online source such as ADW (maybe Chewy sells them? I know they sell pet insulins).

Oh also...if I am reading that correctly Walmart has Lantus for $300...? I'm sorry but I cant afford that... :/

Kind of in a sticky situation then since I can't get the correct syringes for the new insulin ASAP and online only ...so not really sure what to do in the meantime ? I'd assume since he needs insulin i need to just keep him on Novolin...just awful I dropped the bottle

Many here order for Marks Pharmacies in Canada. Marks is WELL acquainted with FDMB. Its much cheaper from Marks.

Perhaps if you call other local vets you can find one who stocks ProZinc and can sell it to you along with the syringes. (For an idea on pricing, my vet charged me $145 for the ProZinc and $45 for 100 syringes in a 'safe disposal pack.' Chewy sells them for ~$100 and $20, respectively.)
