Vacation Dose?

Hi!
I will be out of town this next week. I have a pet sitter coming twice a day to take care of Misty. The pet sitter does not know how to test.
I'll have Misty on a higher carb food while I'm gone, Weruva nine liver which I believe is 9% carbs.
Any inputs on what dose she should be getting?

Hard to say specifically withought a spreadsheet of your numbers, but I always lowered it just a little when i went away. Has your cat had any ketones? Do you have a log of readings?
 
My situation when I travelled was similar -- my cat sitter could test but Gabby would have taken her arm off if she tried! (I liked my sitter and didn't want to inflict her with bodily harm.)

Using higher carb food is fine although it can depend on how carb sensitive Misty is. I never changed up Gabby's food but I did lower her dose. The big question is whether your cat eats when you're gone. Some cats don't eat as well or mom isn't around to keep them entertained or to be followed into the kitchen.. It you need a greater margin of safety, you could also drop the dose to 1.5u. It's often best to have the dose on a marked line on the syringe.

My other overly compulsive behavior was to leave either a sample syringe with the dose drawn up using a colored liquid or email a photo of the aforementioned syringe to my petsitter. Making sure they know exactly what you're wanting avoids unforeseen problems. (We've had sitters inadvertently give a 5.0u dose when the dose should have been 0.5u.)

Misty has never had ketones.

That's the main reason I didn't try to teach a sitter to do it, I don't think Misty would let a stranger test her.
I'm not sure how carb sensitive Misty is, but if it's anything to go on, her reading at the vet was 509 and I got similarly high readings while her insulin dosage was still low after I had switched to 100% LC canned. So it doesn't seem the dramatic change in food initially made much of a difference.
She eats great when her autofeeder opens and I'm out of the house, and is still unregulated so is ravenously hungry all the time, so she probably will eat well, but I'm still paranoid and want a good margin of safety. So will probably go with 1.5.
I definitely plan on leaving a sample syringe, that's so scary! I hope that poor kitty came through alright.

ok you aren't even close to too low and looks like you are ready for an increase. I might raise to 2 for now... and see what happens... and if the number gets lower than like the 140 's maybe tell the sitter to do 1.75

Sounds good! I only have 2 more shots until I leave, will that be enough to tell?
