Does anyone here have any suggestions for my problem? My neighbor has at least a dozen cats and a dozen dogs (I think I counted a new one this morning). The dogs are fenced in and where they dig under I have driven poles into the ground - it's working. The cat's, however, the fence does not stop and they are in my yard constantly (birds). A couple of them "live" under my feeders and houses and have destroyed and damaged many. Most do not want to fight but, some stand their ground and one fought with Mugs recently. We have NO animal control and when I complained to her and asked her to please control the cats, she took out a restraining order on me! Short of shooting them any ideas? Shooting them is what the county suggested. I tried vinegar, spraying them with the hose, chasing them (that's tiring), banana peels, fake snakes, catching and imprisoning one (the worst), and throwing things at them. A dog would only make her dogs bark more (they drive me crazy now) and I can't afford the extra care or expense.

Your neighbor sounds like she is irresponsible and maybe an animal hoarder. She obvoiusly doesn't careabout her animals or neighbors. The answer your animal control gave was even more outlandish...you may want to try and get some of your local media interested in the story or a county or city commissioner. I have tried a product called pure citrus to keep neighborhood Tom cats off my front porch. It works but you have to keep spraying the area every two or three days. The cats hate the citrus scent.

Another angle I thought of was trying code enforcement. If your neighbor has that many dogs it may also be against zoning laws and could be considered an illegal kennel or dog breeding business. If you are in a suburban area it would probably be easier to address. If there is a noticable smell sometimes even a local health department can get involved. Good luck your in a tough situation and I feel sorry for all of those animals your neighbor is collecting.

She is a doozy. The animals seem cared for although I don't know about shots and some are/some aren't spayed/neutered. I tried code and they told me "if it were them they would shoot them" otherwise they did nothing but, speak to her. She said she would control them and went on doing what she pleased. Media? Ha! what media? and local gov't is not going to help. My understanding is she takes in any strays that come along. If she's breaking any laws, no one is going to do anything and I would be considered the problem. This is a very backward county/city. Thanks for the other suggestions, though.

Sounds like your local government's response is adding to the problem. There are some areas in North Florida that are the same. I am surprized they don't shoot people speeding or jay walking! I hope you find some solution to what is really your neighbor's problem!
