U-40 syringes with Lantus

I'm switching Simba from Prozinc back to Lantus 3U - but I have 2 boxes of U-40 syringes and I won't be able to return or get a refund on them, money is tight currently, so is it possible to use the U-40 syringes and be able to draw up 3U of lantus appropriately??

Big NO!! 😲 There is no way to use U40 syringes with U100 insulin. It would be a huge overdose. You absolutely need to use U100 syringes with U100 insulin.

You can always ask your doc to write an rx for them at a local pharmacy if none on the shelf. Mine did. But they didn't have the half unit dosing so I bought through amazon
 
If it helps, they're pretty cheap at Amazon, Walmart, etc? $15-18 for a box of 100.

I understand the frustration; I had a box of incorrect syringes that I bought on prescription without knowing they weren't right, and I have no idea what to do with those.

I got them through my vet store which is basically the equivalent of ordering through my vet but directly from the supplier... The vets office doesn't offer refunds on anything bought from there

I'm in Canada and anything I've found on Amazon or at Walmart ranges from $30-$50 per box of syringes... I'm currently not working due to a car accident and funds are already stretched very thin so it's incredibly frustrating. 😞
 
I wish I could help. I have a full box of some I got before I knew I needed ones with half unit marks. But if you need half unit marks, that wouldn't help you either. I thought about just using them when I go to an even unit dose. I'm in US and wouldn't even know how to get them to you. Is there a way I can get some to you? Not sure how purchasing syringes goes in Canada.

Whoops, really sorry about the US-centrism.

And that is a really difficult position to be in, I'm so sorry. I can relate to struggling hard with the costs of all this, though it's a different set of circumstances. I don't know about syringes necessarily, and I haven't had a chance to go through these myself (so I don't know what kinds of requirements any given source has), but there's also a post of financial resources for diabetic cat owners.

The link you provided to petsdrugmart is where Karolina and I order from. They’re the cheapest I’ve found, the only tricky part is there’s no free shipping (that I’ve found), so I usually buy a few boxes to keep the price per box down.

Roughly where are you in Canada?
 
Hi Simba, and thanks for tagging me, squeem3. The price is better at petsdrugmart, but I get mine from Shoppers Drug Mart (Pharmaprix here in Quebec), either over the counter, as you don't need a prescription, or have them delivered. These are the Embecta syringes, who bought BD and rebranded the diabetes control products.
