Quick recap of the past week:
- Roxy had pus coming out of her mouth again (last time was in may)
- Had her seen, turns out it's a tooth infection and i was told she would need it removed. Got anti biotics and pain meds in the mean time.
- Had blood work done to see if she was a 'good candidate' for surgery. Agonized until the results came in on whether or not she was even going to have a chance or not. She can do the surgery, everything came back good/normal.
- New vet said I could start her back on insulin, a small dose, to see how it goes and review with new vet.
Where I'm at right now:
The tooth extraction is spendy, and I was told I could look around for a cheaper price, but that the vet wouldn't be able to refer me to another local vet, only a certain hospital with a dental team. Does that sound right?
My mom is unsupportive again, she seems to think Roxy is suffering and is 'sick of being poked and prodded'. Other than when her mouth hurt and the few minutes i annoy her a day when i have to do diabetic stuff, she was doing fine? She also thinks that this can go away with anti biotics and pain meds, without need of surgery. That's not correct, right?
I'm going to look around for lower prices, and assess the risks/aftercare of this to make sure i'm not putting her through hell or something... has anybody else gone through this before and have any words of advice?
