I'm getting ready for bed and so I was giving Todd all of his nighttime meds. He got his Tumil-K, 2mg of Pred and about 20 minutes later, I gave him 1/4 of the Mirtazapine. Within 10 minutes of giving him the Mirtazapine, he threw up. It was the color of the dry k/d food (which he started eating on Wed. last week), but was liquid. He looks fine right now, he even asked for food after he threw up. I let him have a couple of licks of wet food. Then I gave him his Pepcid AC to help settle his tummy. Should I be worried tonight? He hasn't had his 1.5 units of Lantus yet this evening. I'll be checking his BG numbers shortly, just to make sure he is ok there. He has been eating, drinking and going potty just fine all day today and yesterday. So I don't know why he threw up... However, he was just started back on the Mirtazapine last week (on the 14th). Within about 2 hours of giving him the Mirtazapine on the 14th, someone (because I don't know for sure if it was him) threw up in the hallway. Could the Mirtazapine be making him throw up now?.. When he was on it back in Aug and Sept, he was fine on it. So this is odd.. I'll be calling the vet about it tomorrow. Maybe there is another appetite stimulant they can put him on. Because this is the only thing I can think of that could be making him throw up.

As I said, he is looking and acting just fine right now. Alert and bright eyed. But I'm still worried.

*EDIT I did a little search online, and what I am finding is that Mirtazapine is also used as a anti-nausea and vomiting drug for cats. So why would he be vomiting after he takes it?? Has anyone else had this happen? Also, he has slightly elevated kidney values, which is why he is on the k/d.

*EDIT 2 He's had some water, still looks good. His BG was 367 at 10:22pm before insulin, but after throwing up. He ate some food, so I gave him his insulin. I think he'll be ok, but I'm still a bit worried.

Cats throw up periodically so I wouldn't be too concerned unless it happens again in the next few days, sometimes changing medications or dosages can make cats vomit I would just keep monitering him if he otherwise seems OK.
