Hello everyone,
Sadly, my sweet little Toby has passed on and I'm heartbroken. He was 15 years old, had early stage kidney disease, a heart condition, high blood pressure and had gone blind a few months ago. A recent ultrasound showed acute pancreatitis and his diabetes diagnosis soon followed. I was giving him 6.5 units of glargine twice a day with no significant changes and supplemented him with potassium. Within the last 3 weeks he had 3 weekly bouts of nausea where he was drooling, head down, barely walking but recovered by giving him fluids and nausea medication. Unfortunately, this last bout was more serious and the medications didn't help.I realized he was in pain and that these episodes would continue so I made the decision to say good-bye to him. I suppose he was in more pain than i realized but I was so fixed on getting him better, and it's so hard to know when to make an end of life decision. With all his various ailments, it's hard to know what caused his pain at the end but I assume it was his pancreas.
I just wanted to share my grief. as Toby was such a gentle, sweet cat and I miss him so much already.
Thank-you for this forum.
