Time to test your ReliOn Meters?

Thought I'd share my experience with testing my ReliOn Premier CLASSIC with the control solution.

It's free, you just go here to request https://supplies.relionbgm.com/

ReliOn suggest you should test your meter when:
  • You have a new meter
  • You begin using a new vial of test strips
  • You suspect that the meter or the strips are not working properly
  • You dropped the meter
From their website, just select your meter and "Control Solution" checkbox and it will show up several weeks later. Note: you can order it every 10 weeks!

Here are the instructions that came with it:

This is the control solution bottle. Note: Discard after 3 months.

Here are my test strips, there is a range of where the control solution should land:

Thanks for sharing, Jason. This will help many people.
I couldn’t get the Relion to work for me. It always said not enough blood. So I switched to the Countour Next, which requires less blood. (I’m sure it’s operator error on my part, so many seem to use the Relion with success)! :cat:

I hope it helps people, I was personally skeptical why I'm using a $9 meter and all the others on the market are around $30-$50.

Yeah, sometimes it does seem like it needs more blood and doesn't suck it up as it normally does. I guess that's the price you pay for a $9 meter and probably the cheapest strips out there. Overall, I've been very, very satisfied with the ReliON meter and strips. Glad @Diane Tyler's Mom recommended it to me on her welcome post. I'd probably have the most expensive meter and strips right now because that means it works better, right? ha ha, no!

For about a month, I was taking two tests each time I needed to check Kona by using both meters and I would average the two numbers for what I put on the spreadsheet. I'm done doing that and I'm fully confident in them now and will only run two meters if I'm in the 50 range.

I have dropped my meter on the floor a couple times when Kona is being squirrely or I'm in hurry, so I did question damage.

It's 100% FREE, so I'm going to continue testing the meters & strips with the control solution every few months or so.

Great job, Jason!! You’re doing amazingly! :cat:

Thank you, Jason! I used the Relion for a long time and switched to the Advanced from CVS (same price, and cheap strips as well) only because I can walk to CVS but do not have a Walmart close by, so I had to order strips and it bothered me. So I have both. I'll look to see if the CVS one has a solution to check it as well.

This is an old post to bring back up, but this information is so helpful. I've just switched to the Relion meter from the AlphaTrak3, and the AT3 has control solution that comes with the new meter--otherwise I would never have known it was important to do control tests. In my search for control solution for the Relion, I wasn't able to find anything until I searched this group, and here's the answer! I've ordered mine today. Thanks so much for posting this @Jason - Kona's Dad!
