? Time Sensitive Question on Curves

Tonight, for the first time, I'm not sure if I injected all of my cat's 2 units of Lantus into him. When I went to rub his back post-injection, I felt some liquid and couldn't tell what the heck happened .. if I shot through the fold to the outside, if some of the insulin got in ..

From what I've read on this board, I understand that I should not administer another shot and should instead wait till tomorrow morning. Unfortunately, I bookmarked tomorrow to do a curve.

Question is - - how long does it take for a cat's BG to correct itself after a missed dose? I intended to do his curve tomorrow but now worry the readings will be inaccurate. It's important I get an accurate curve, 'cause his numbers are perplexing his vet and me.

I would wait 3 days between a missed shot and doing a curve. Especially when he's having confusing numbers already, you don't need them confounded any further by his dose being basically lower than it should be until his Lantus depot re-equalizes with his prescribed dose.

Unfortunately it can take several cycles to see the effects of any change pass. For whatever consolation it may be, it's possible it was just a partial furshot and some insulin still made it in.

Sometimes in my experience one skip doesn't make a huge difference, sometimes it does.

It's super frustrating. So sorry it had to be with bad timing too.

Thank you both! I'm super frustrated with myself, but it is what it is.. Really need to get a sense of how he's doing, as his numbers don't make sense, at least to me. Any ideas on what may be going on? I worry I'm missing something..

Overall it looks as though you just haven't reached his ideal dose yet. While he is getting some blue numbers, overall he's running relatively high. But it's really early days for him yet - it generally takes longer than just a few weeks to get things under control. I would try really hard to be patient, stick with the SLGS method (looks like that's the one you've chosen) and trust that it will work in due course if you keep following it.

Thank you so much I think I needed to hear all of that. Am going to take a deep breath and be patient. Even though his numbers are still high, his symptoms have abated entirely, so I know he's feeling better. Will keep with it. Thank you again!!!

Lack of symptoms is always an excellent thing. It shows they're feeling so much better even if the meter isn't giving us the numbers we want. And how he feels is the most important thing of all.
