? Ti-Mousse can't get rid of BLACK & RED numbers AGAIN and AGAIN!!

LOOKING FOR YOUR EXPERTISE !!!

Sorry, it's us again!! Since December, my Ti-Mousse is always mostly in BLACK and RED! He had a few Yellows and Pinks..but he keeps getting back to the dark numbers:( (I'm starting to think that for those good numbers I pricked my finger instead of his little ear ;)..)

- Could it be that this type of insulin is not working great for him ? but he seems to be lower at night than during the day at some point; if that type of insulin was not working, would he go lower sometimes? (I'll be starting his 2nd month of Lantus on January 22);

- Could it be dental, I know that's a main problem? (BTW vet never called me back .... GRRRR!) If it was a dental problem causing this, why would he go lower sometimes? Inflammation or infection if any, can't go away if not treated!!

- Could it be the dosage? This is weird !!!! I noticed that the lower numbers he got were always after a fur shot = so no insulin !! His numbers were lower at lower dosage! Does he need insulin, maybe his system is fighting ??? :banghead:

If someone can give us some thoughts or feedback on this, I would appreciate so much! I want to do the most for Ti-Mousse but I'm not sure where to go NOW and what is the right path to follow to get him out of this !!

You started to see progress with the 2.5 unit dose, but it's still not enough insulin. I would go up to 2.75 units tomorrow. You did have a couple fur shots in there, which did deplete the Lantus depot, but you've had enough good shots since then to show that 2.5 units isn't enough insulin. However, you are making progress cause now your increases are by 0.25 units. Hang on, you will get there. :bighug:

By the way, it's still very early in Ti-Mousse's FD journey, not even quite two months yet. We usually suggest people give an insulin 6 months to see if it's working. Insulin is a hormone, it does take a kitty a while to learn how to use it properly, plus you just haven't hit that right dose yet. Plus you are starting to see those yellows, and his body isn't used to it, so he is bouncing a lot. That will improve over time. I know it's really hard, but patience is important.

Many kitties go lower at night, maybe something to do with them being nocturnal animals by natures? Anyway, that's why we are always getting after people to test at night.

And yes, needing a dental will make it harder to get him regulated. But just keep following the protocol, I have seen it work time and time again.

Yes, it's very frustrating ,especially in the beginning. Ti-Mousse hasn't been on Lantus long enough to see what it's going to do. You don't want to start switching insulin so soon.
I think you should Tag Wendy&Neko Maybe he needs an increase ? She would know. The people who advise are sometimes busy with their own life so sometimes someone other than her may respond.
If been here nearly a year & Ravan still goes into Red & Black #'s. I've been told some cats "bounce " more than others.
It could also be do to his teeth. Are they just in need of a cleaning or did the vet say it looked like an infection?
I wish I could help more but like I said before you need to have Patience. Everyone here has felt the way you do at one time. We gradually learn that sometimes we just need to wait.
It will get better :):bighug:

I just saw Wendy did respond :)

I'm glad Wendy suggested an increase. Remember, it may take a full day till you see a response (PATIENCE!)

It would be very helpful for you to get a few more tests in during the night. Test at different times to see what the insulin is doing. It's not easy getting up at all hours of the night but the information is important.
Ravan's nadir ( lowest BG) is between +6 & +8 I wouldn't know that if I didn't test him at different times. As Ti-Mousse 's BG starts coming down you will NEED to check him to keep him safe.

Take a few deep breaths. You can do this! You have people here that really want to help you & Ti-Mousse . We're all anxious to see him do well (you too)
I've seen some kitties get regulated or go into remission an just a few months. Others take longer. We just need to wait & see. It's really up to the cat! How his body reacts to the insulin.

Have a nice evening. I'll check back tomorrow. :):bighug:

What would I do without you !!! :bighug: I'll increase tomorrow to 2.75 and I know it takes time, but I'm always afraid not doing the proper thing in a proper time and be missing the perfect moment !!

For dental, my vet never called back; I guess she's not ready to tell me she won't do it.. I'll see with Pepe's ophtalmologist if he knows of a dentist! I want this to be done!
Thank you so much Wendy to accompany us to the marvelous trip to OTJ !!

Thank you for being there! At the beginning you're not used to all this and some days when you keep seeing only those Black and Red numbers, you just feel unsure of what you're doing and hoping you're not doing anything wrong keeping your little kitty from getting better !! You really feel so responsible for his little life and you don't won't to make any mistakes! Wendy gave me good advice as usual!

Sorry to bust in on a thread like this, haha. But does anyone think I should increase Max, or wait a few more days to see if the all canned food helps his numbers?

I have a black and red baby too. :arghh::banghead:

You're not busting in :) Everyone is welcome to comment :) It's how we show support and caring for all kitties here in this forum. It's also helpful for you to read others comments/concerns...one thing for sure - you know you're not alone - especially since you and Gio also have those high numbers to deal with. So now you have another kitty that's wearing the same booties as your Gio...

It's a long haul - might as well get comfy with your travel partners on this journey :)
