Hello,

Theodore has a lot still going on and a lot of questions. My concern is his ongoing weight loss and I question if this has to do with his diabetes? July 30, 2024 Theodore started Veraflox treatment again as he has one parasite still around and we questioned whether is was causing issues for him. We lasted 23 days with treatment. Neuropathy started for him towards the end and he was becoming lethargic, I was bringing him to pee, poo because his legs were bad. I started him on Zobaline. August 21, 2024 We discontinued use of Veraflox, he has since improved in personality and brightness but my little guy is having a hard time with his weight. When he was on Veraflox his numbers would get really bad which is why I increased dose, I decided once antibitoics were done, to try at 4 units as he previously was doing well somewhere around there and earned reductions which I missed. His previous test results for Hyperthyroid were 23.9 for T4, I questioned whether he has hyperthyroid as he looks like the cats when I google them, is there a possibility that his test could be inaccurate or other tests that could be added on? I am just baffled, everytime I take him off antibiotics he looses weight.

Weight loss, in spite of eating appropriate calories, is typically due to unregulated diabetes, hyperthyroidism or GI issues such as IBD or small cell lymphoma. I haven't any experience with hyperT. But you can find user groups (groups.io has an excellent one) or websites, such as Cornell U that have descriptions. A T4 of 23.9 isn't even in the top half of the scale for T4, so unlikely that's an issue.

Are you giving him probiotics when you give the antibiotics? Antibiotics can kill the good tummy flora too.

@Wendy&Neko yes I was trying to give him probiotics. I think it was just the diabetes getting worse that really impaired things with the neuropathy. I have a vet visit Tuesday to discuss next steps. Perhaps another antibiotic but she didn’t suggest doxy because there’s apparently some risk with it?
