Since I last posted about my newly diagnosed diabetic cat who had lost 3 pounds (7 down to 4), I am happy to report that thanks to all the information gained here she and my other two cats are now grain free. We did have a hypoglycemic episode over the weekend (of course it had to happen on a Saturday) but she came back quickly and I cut her insulin right away. I bought a glucometer and tested her yesterday. On 1/2 unit in the AM she was 86 at 3:30 PM yesterday. That seemed perfect. She was due at the vet for her glucose curve today and since her BS was only 140 this morning, I wasn't comfortable knowing what dose to give. The vet wanted to see what she did with 1 unit (she had been on 1 unit AM and 1/2 PM). She crashed, of course. So, now she will be on 1/2 unit starting Wednesday. And she has gained 3/4 pound since I changed her diet. I am so happy. Now, if we can get her chronic urinary tract infection cleared up, she'll be good. But getting the sugar out of her urine is key. (she was spilling some today at the vet, but she was stressed).

Thanks for all the great info.

Glad you were home to stop that hypo. I have no idea why your vet would want to see what she did on 1 unit when she crashed on that over the weekend. Also, now that you have a meter, save yourself some money, do the curves at home, set up a spread sheet and hand that in to the vet. Sounds like everything really is going well now. Kudos to you for taking such good care and getting right into it all.

Forgot to add, you need to make your second book available on Kindle :-D My son-in-law's mother loved your first one. It's on my Kindle also but I haven't gotten to read it yet.
