Test/feed/shoot assistance

Hello! Hoping for some guidance on test/feed/shoot. We give my girl a churu while testing for distraction. Is this enough food in her system for a shot? Sometimes the Churu makes her full and she doesn’t want to eat immediately after.

Is ok to shoot while feeding but You should feed a full meal to shoot, food brings the BG up, so a CHURU can interfere on the pre test and not enough to keep the insulin when it kicks in usually by +2 2 hours

Can you set up your signature with basic info about your cat? I had to find a previous post of yours where you mention your cat is on Lantus. By having info in your signature, it saves members time from searching posts to get info they need to better help you, especially if a cat is having a hypo or some other urgent issue. Lantus doesn't usually kick in until 2 hours later. As long as your cat eats a normal-ish meal before then, she'll be ok.

What times does your cat usually eat?

Hi yes! I am sorry. She is on 1.5u Lantus - she got her dose upped yesterday. Normally eats at 6:30pm and I shoot her when she eats.

So your shot times are roughly 6:30 am and 6:30 pm? Definitely don't feed anything after 4:30 to avoid spiking bgs but it's ok for a small treat if it gets your cat to hold still for testing. If the Churu makes her too full, will she eat something else? Freeze dried meat treats are popular. So is plain cooked chicken. A few pieces is all you need. Maybe offer a piece or two so you can test, and then put the rest of on top of the food so she'll eat?

Do you use a timed feeder?

Hi yes 6:30 am and 6:30 pm. She is 2 hours fasted for her BG so she has some Churu and then I feed her “dinner” for her shot.

No, I am the timed feeder 😝

Maybe give enough Churu so she holds still for testing and then add a bit more to dinner.

A programmable timed feeder works great to give small snacks throughout the day, especially for those who work full time outside the home. Also great if you need to go out for the day. And it works at night too so you can sleep.

Thank you! Thankfully I am WFH; and have been too afraid to leave her alone for much time but I hope with getting her regulated this changes. She is my whole world!

I will try your tips for her shot tonight, about 20 mins until time!
