Hi all - Lucy has been eating wet food exclusively for years. Over the past few days, her appetite has reduced drastically out of nowhere and she won't touch her wet food or any of the other different ones I bought yesterday in an attempt to get her to eat. I grabbed a few kibbles from a family member and she ate those. I've already taken her to the vet and all of her bloodwork came back fine (pancreatitis, liver, kidneys) as did an x-ray of her abdomen. She is getting more fluids and anti-nausea medication today, and then I am going to give her fluids at home tonight to try and see if she doesn't start feeling better. If she isn't improved tomorrow, they're going to do an abdominal ultrasound. In the meantime, I am going to buy some dry food to at least try and get her to eat something and hopefully get her going in the right direction. The vet said a small amount would be fine for this purpose only but to keep an eye on her glucose.

Any recommendations for a particular kind that would be the "least bad" so to speak?

I dont know if stores carry them but "Dr Elseys" dry has less carbs and "Young Again" likewise. There are others but I dont know the names. Hold on for more replies. ;):coffee:

When Max developed chronic pancreatitis he became inappetent. Did they run the Snap test for pancreatitis or was it sent out? The Snap only gives a positive or negative so if in the gray zone will not like it’s not pancreatitis when it is.

I'm assuming that your vet already checked to make sure Lucy isn't constipated.
This appears to be the case! I ended up taking her to the ER for an ultrasound, and they said her intestinal track wasn't moving and she had quite a bit of food built up even though she hasn't been eating. They gave her an appetite stimulant, anti-nausea, fluids, pain meds, and something to get her bowels moving, all of which I have to continue to give her for several days. She ate some food there and ate a decent amount when I brought her home last night as well. She really seems to like the Friskies they were giving her to eat so will go out today and get some more of that.

Did they run the Snap test for pancreatitis or was it sent out?
During the ultrasound, they said she was great and didn't budge much except when they went over her pancreas, even though it looked fine. I believe her vet just did the Snap test you're referring to as the results were back in-house and very quickly. The ER vet ordered a full GI panel that covers the pancreas as well as nutritional deficiencies as a sign for IBS and takes a few days to come back as it gets sent out.

Stating the obvious here ... but did the vet check for ketones?

Any vomiting?

How is she acting otherwise?
No ketones or vomiting, fortunately. She is acting a bit better since bringing her home from the ER last night, just seems very uncomfortable, most likely due the gastrointestinal distress. I have never been so excited for her to wander in to the cat box before...

POOP makes everyones day!

BTW Lucy is just adorably smoooshable

She is such a ham! I was joking with the vet techs that some medical issue seems to pop up every 4 - 5 months, and she probably does it on purpose because the people at the ER love her and are always talking about how friendly she is and gets lots of employee visitors. I'm convinced it's a scheme!! ;)

Thank you for the recommendation on Dr. Elsey's dry food by the way! I'm going to go pick some up just in case she gets finnicky again.
