Thank you all for the wonderful support you have given us over the last 12 hours. They kept Tarragon at the hospital overnight. I just spoke with them and there has been no change. All indications are chronic renal failure, but they are not sure how severe it is. I plan on going to the hospital this afternoon and spending some time with Tarragon.

Thank you again. We appreciate all the kind thoughts.

Melissa,

I saw the news last night and woke up this morning thinking about Tarragon. My wishes, thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Re: Tarragon - UPDATE

Continuing thoughts and prayers for sweet T....Thanks for the update, Melissa....I woke up thinking about him. (((((Melissa & Tarragon)))))

Re: Tarragon - UPDATE

((((Melissa and Tarragon)))): I had to rush to the 'puter as soon as I got kitty breffis done to check on him. I'm so glad to get this report....I know we all prayed for him last night and this morning.

Is there any way you can get a copy of his labs and post them so that those of us dealing with chronic kidney disease can look at them? Also....when was his last bloodwork and what were his kidney levels because CKD does not happen fast (unless the bean ignores the symptoms but that is not the case here)....but acute kidney failure does and that would be indicative of him getting into something.

Sending him continued healing vines and prayers.

Re: Tarragon - UPDATE

Oh, Melissa! I didn't log on the boards last night and just now saw this. The whole works of prayers, healing thoughts, vines, snowflakes and the kitchen sink coming your way from Kansas City this morning for clear answers and a successful treatment path for sweet Mr. T. I've been in your shoes, walking in to an unresponsive furbaby... sending you one, big, giant hug as well.

Re: Tarragon - UPDATE

Thanks guys! I am at work but not getting much done. He had a full blood panel done two weeks ago when we were having asthma issues and all of his levels were normal, including those for his kidneys, liver, etc. That is what is so confusing to us. It happened so quick that it seems like he had to have gotten into something, but he stays inside and there is nothing in my house that is poison. We did notice a couple of days ago that he wasn't eating as much as normal, but neither was Turnup so we chalked it up to the heat. Brian (my DH) leaves for work after I do every morning and always picks up Tarragon and Turnup before he leaves and spends a few minutes with each of them cuddling. He said that he noticed that Tarragon's breath smelled kind of like ammonia yesterday morning. When I look that up, it brings up kidney disease as well. I go in at 2 to talk to the doctor, so hopefully they will have some answers.

Thank you again for your thoughts. I will definitely post the labs when I get them.

Re: Tarragon - UPDATE

{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{EXTREMEHUGSFORYOUANDTARRAGON}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} I look forward to the lab posts when you can update them. Still sending tons of healing vines, and positive thoughts. Like another person said, he has JUST GOT TO get better.

Re: Tarragon - UPDATE

Melissa, continued healing vines and prayers for you and your sweet Tarragon, and we'll be waiting for the update from Tarragon's doctor.

Re: Tarragon - UPDATE

The only plants we have are hanging plants and your generic ivy and airplane plants. Since we redid our floors, we have not brought our floor plants back in yet. Turnup is the plant eater and will scale a small building to get to one. Tarragon has never taken an interest in anything except q-tips and bugs. We keep the q-tips under lock and key and had to install child locks on all of our bathroom cupboards a few years back because he would eat the cotton off of them and we were worried about it. He won't even eat people food if presented to him, other than tuna and chicken. Which leads them back to the brown recluse theory. His labs were all fine a couple of weeks ago and now, in a matter of 24 hours, he is this bad. It had to be something acute.

Re: Tarragon - UPDATE

They ran a CBC panel, Liver (AST, ALT, Alk Phos, Total Bilirubin, GGT, Cholesterol, Proteins), Kidney (BUN, Creatinine, Phosphorus, Amylase, Albumin), urine test.

Re: Tarragon - UPDATE

you and tarragon were my first thought when i woke up this morning. the power of all our good, healing thoughts are with you.

Re: Tarragon - UPDATE

Sending a steady stream of super healing vines to Tarragon today - hoping for the best possible outcome.
(((((((Melissa ))))))))

Re: Tarragon - UPDATE

I just googled brown recluse and renal failure in cats. I guess it takes 48 hours for it to show up systemically and can lead to renal failure. It only talked about bites though, not swallowing. Wishing for better news for you and Tarragon. (((((((((hugs)))))))))

Re: Tarragon - UPDATE

Still sending thoughts and prayers this morning. Hopefully you'll get a positive report from the vet this afternoon.

Re: Tarragon - UPDATE

WE ARE PRAYING SO SO HARD FOR TARRAGON TO PULL THROUGH THIS~!!
Melissa we are here for you--I was thinking of you & T. all night
All the Healing vines we can muster & Prayers for some good news today--We love you both!

Re: Tarragon - UPDATE

dittoes to all of the above.
I was afraid to check the board this morning, but was so happy not to see candles or rainbows...
The second Butthead rosebud is beginning to open. Maybe he'll share a little miracle with Tarragon.

We are all praying for Tarragon to get better. Sending healing vines, white light and love his way.

Re: Tarragon - UPDATE

Just got back from visiting Tarragon. He is still very weak and on an iv. They are running more tests and will call me by 5 and let me know if he can come home tonight. They are stepping away from the kidney theory it sounds like. They are stumped. Everything is coming back normal. Is it possible he just got a bug? Anyone have any thoughts? No infection, blood work normal, urine normal, lungs and heart clear, x-rays fine. I am pushing for him to come home since I know he would be more comfortable at home. They are going to have a copy of his labs ready for me when I go back.

Thanks again everyone.

Re: Tarragon - UPDATE #2

Hi Melissa, oh this sounds so much more positive with the news that it's not the kidneys. It's a miracle bloodwork and lungs, etc. are clear. Maybe some others will have some thoughts on what it could be with Tarragon. More healing vines and prayers and we'll wait for the next update after you speak with the Vet. I know you want him home, but maybe he still need more monitoring and intensive care. See what others say. Hugs and love from me and Maggie

Re: Tarragon - UPDATE #2

I think it is encouraging that all his labs look normal and his kidneys look okay. I hope things just keep improving for him. I am off to an appt. but want you to know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and T today and everyday until he is better. Will check in when I get home. Lots of love to you and T.

Re: Tarragon - UPDATE #2

Wow--I know it must be incredibly stressful not knowing what caused this episode, but for now it is such a relief to hear that his numbers and X-rays are coming back normal. You and Tarragon continue to be in my thoughts. Hoping so hard for a full recovery.

Re: Tarragon - UPDATE #2

The prayers are working!! Thank goodness for normal results!

Will continue to send prayers your way ..

Re: Tarragon - UPDATE #2

Been thinking about you all day.....glad for normal results....but so very strange, this whole episode. Continued thoughts and prayers.....will be watching for next update.

Re: Tarragon - UPDATE #2

hang in there, melissa... and tarragon, too!

a little over a year and a half ago alex presented us with acute liver and kidney failure. her ducts, liver, and gall bladder were inflamed and she had a small gall stone (seen on an ultrasound). she was one sick kitty. it was an uphill battle... touch and go for weeks, but she's still here. we have no idea what caused it. alex is also an "inside only" kitty. :?

have they performed an ultrasound? ultrasounds offer a good look at what may be going on inside...

Re: Tarragon - UPDATE #2

I'm so glad to hear there is some improvement. I hope he'll continue getting better.

An ultrasound is a good idea, to give a good look at what is going on inside. Did they consider pancreatitis? Many diabetic cats are prone to pancreatitis, and those attacks can be acute and very scary. It won't always show up in regular bloodwork, but there are tests that can be sent out and have results in a couple of days.
