Sybil’s blue PMPS - not sure what to do now

Can you retest her now and see where she is? This will put you off schedule for tomorrow morning if you shoot now, right? Do you have to leave the house at 5 or 6?

So a 147 and a 154 are basically the same number (meter variance). I don’t see how skipping the shot would be that bad right now. We can see how she is in the morning. She may just be getting that 14 hour duration
Sounds good. Thanks for jumping in. I wish I knew what to do ahead of time so I didn’t have to bug you.

For example if tomorrow AMPS is xxxx, shoot this. But I guess it’s not that black and white.

Well I think you would be okay shooting .5 tonight if you could gather a few tests.

tomorrow if she has a yellow AMPS, shopt the full dose. If she’s around 150 like tonight then I would shoot .5 also if I was not going to be home. If I was going to be home, I would shoot 1 unit and gather testing data to help us with these future decisions

I’m sorry about the confusion. I would go ahead an skip tonight and we can see what effect it has. She may surprise us. I was just thinking of next time. For tonight the skip os good. You wanted instructions for what to do if nobody was around and I was trying to come up with some. I will look at her spreadsheet at 5 a.m. and see if it looks like you need help.

Omigosh i don’t want you to have to get up that early. It’s all confusing anyway, I am new at this.

I think it will be fine. You rest too. If it’s lower blue by her standards in the morning I will do .5, if it’s maybe 170 or higher, I’ll give the 1.25 dose.

How did you make out today at the vet? I hope all is well and we thank you.

She’s got a low yellow this morning, I see. Sort of like a normal morning. She’s making it easy for you to shoot. I wonder if she will do the same thing as yesterday? How many hours after the shot will you leave? Will you give her food or leave food out for her?

Good morning. I always leave out Dr Elseys (chicken) for both of them to graze. I am waiting to hear when I have to go but I can surely test +2, +3, +4 and we shall see after that. Looks like her nadir is usually +3 but I understand that can shift. I’d like to get a test before the PMPS test to see how that is and I’ll try.

Let’s see how it goes today. She’s really trending down overall so that’s a good thing.

Thank you for checking in so bright and early :cat:. I hope your day is wonderful.

Ami, any sort of delay between feed and shoot? Those are hefty drops for +2. With Prozinc, we want to see the +2 about the same as preshot, although, some cats just have early onset.

I helped a member who had that same sort of pattern, it turned out she was waiting an hour (or more) after feeding to give the shot and that shed light on some of the huge drops at +2. The insulin starts working around +2 (for most cats) but his pancreas started working right after he ate, between 3 to 4 hours prior, right in the time frame we expect the pancreas to bring the BG back down....so, the insulin kicking in along with the pancreas producing some insulin explained why we were seeing unusual drops at +2 in that situation.

No, I feed right after testing and shoot right after feeding. I wouldn’t have the time to delay anyway.

She definitely seems to have an early onset and nadir as you already noticed. One way to try to delay it is with a few more carbs at breakfast. But Sybil isn’t really a bouncy cat so it’s not as big of a problem as it is with some cats I see.
And…. She’s earned another reduction down to 1 unit and I would go ahead and take it if Sybil were my cat. PMPS dose 1 unit. :D

Yes I did notice that early nadir (which I finally looked up how to pronounce that). You are a good teacher. I am hesitant to start messing with the food again since I just got this somewhat stabilized and got them both to eat the same food. Since you said it’s not as big of a deal since she’s not bouncy, I prefer to stay for now with the food setup.

YAY on the reduction to 1 unit! Sybil will be happy when she comes out from hiding under the bed :).

Thank you again, as always we are grateful :bighug:.

Yes. Let’s not mess with success at this point. I agree. :bighug:

So far so good with the reduction to 1 unit. Good call (no doubt in my mind you would have the best advice). I got lots of numbers for all of us yesterday. Sybil was a trooper.

Today I’m taking it easier on her and I am trying to get things together for hurricane prep for my dad and I. Hope you’re having a great day! Thank you!

I like those numbers!
:cat::bighug:Yippee. I can start to understand now what you were trying to do. More stable and not fluctuate too much. She’s been jumping up and down of the couch, playing, being snuggly, no pee outside the box at all. It’s been nice. Thank you!

Go Sybil Go! I see more improvement on the horizon.

You’ve been amazing to us. We are grateful for your patience and dedication.

Thanks. Not going outside the box is a big deal. She feels better.
