Off topic from diabetes but hoping someone has suggestions. My diabetic (Whitey) has been yowling every morning for months now. He will come stand outside of our bedroom door and start yowling around 6am like clockwork. It's not good since my wife and I go to bed later and don't have to get up until 8am so it is really effecting our sleep.
He just had his check up and the vet confirmed it is nothing medical, strictly a behavioral issue. I usually feed them all at 8am/8pm and give him his shots at that time. Since their food is long gone at 8am and 6am I figure maybe he's hungry. I thought of feeding him later in the night like right before I go to bed but if I do that his feeding/shots won't be in line because if I feed at 11pm , there is no one home at 11am to feed and give shots the next day.
So an option is feed/give shot at 8am, give second shot 8pm and hold off to feed again till 10/11pm.
I have tried felineway spray, jackson galaxy's spirt essences, the thundershirt and now we set up a barrier in the hallway to try to block them from the door but he either gets louder or brakes through it.I was going to get a child gate to block the hall but he's still in good enough shape that he can easily jump over one if he's motivated. Prozac has been suggested as well but I'm really hesitant to do that. #1 I know from experience that he will never take a pill daily. #2 the compounded version will run about $60/mo and on top of diabetes supplies I really can't afford that with my wife not currently working. #3 I feel bad about giving him a human pych drug not knowing how it will effect or change all the good parts of his personality.
But we are at the point of desperation now ...and my wife also refuses to wear ear plugs because she is prone to infections.
