Ok well my diabetic cat is ALWAYS hungry... She can probably eat a whole case of wet food if she could... She was on Fancy Feast classics (chicken) and she always seemed to be starving until her next feeding.. I usually feed her at 8 am and at 8 pm when she gets her insulin. but it makes me feel soooo bad they she is so hungry in the middle of the day. I was feeding FF one can in AM and 1 can in PM since its a small can...

I decided to switch to wellness grain free chicken can food ( i figured maybe a better quality food will keep her full) but she still seems to be soooooooo hungry... Shes about 11 pounds and the doctor says she can not gain any more weight...
I was also recently adopted by a stray kitten (about 7 month old) and she is a thin girl.. Prob under 7 pounds. and i notice that she is also veryyyy hungry by mid day...

so now im thinking its just not my diabetic cat ... The can says i can per 6-8 pounds... so i feed about half a can each morning and night (since its a bigger can)... so each cat is getting a can.. but i feel like this is so little...

am i feeding right? or should i be feeding more?
I would think a whole can AM and a whole can PM would do them both good but then its possible my little fatty (diabetic cat) will gain more weight shes not suppose to..

If cats are unregulated,, their bodies are not using the food well and they are hungrier than normal. I think one can of FF in the am and one in the pm per cat is a reasonable amount, even if she shouldn't gain weight. You can add a little warm water to the wet food, making a gravy. It makes them think they are getting more to eat.

Im no longer feeding her FF and switched her over to Wellness. shes getting half a can AM and half at PM .. and so is the other cat.
I figured that maybe its not the diabetes since the other cat that doesn't have diabetes is also very hungry

Can you give them some food mid-day? Maybe a can of FFeast between? Or leave some out if you're gone to work? KT and all my others get hungry early afternoon. They each get 1/2 can Friskies about 8am, 1/2 can each of FFeast mid-day and 1/2 can Friskies early evening. Some of mine are big Maine Coon mixes, others are 'normal' 8-9 lb cats but all eat the same amount. The bigger ones don't seem to need more food or they get fat....

BIG HUG!

Thats the problem.. Im not here in Midday and if i left some out they would eat it with there AM meal lol

I use an automatic feeder and love it. Mine is the PetSafe5. It has 5 compartments and you can set it to feed in any time segments you want. You can set it to go to an empty compartment 2 hours before the preshot so food doesn't influence your test.

Tricks to slow down the eating when you don't have a timed feeder:

1) smear the food across a very large plate or platter.

2) Freeze half of it to thaw slowly and be eaten as it thaws.

what a cool idea! I like the freezing part.. So if i freeze there meals and they are forced to lick and eat slowly then that will keep them fuller longer?

Not so much full, as not quite so hungry because it slows eating. And only freeze about half, not the whole meal, especially if you are giving insulin as you need some food to be on board when the insulin starts acting. It also helps prevent scarf 'n' barf where the animal eats so fast it then upchucks and has to start over (a waste of food!)
