Trying this again... this is the third attempt. I keep being asked to log in and then the post is lost. Ugh.

We are back to reds and blacks as of the evening of 4/27, but this has coincided with a loss in appetite and jumpiness on her part. My vet wanted me to give her subQ fluids last night plus a dose of buprenorphine to see if we saw any improvements, and it did help because this AM she felt much more comfortable and ate mostly normally with only minimal prodding to return to the food bowl. So, the conclusion is we are dealing with a pancreatitis flareup in addition to IBD. We haven't done a PLI or spec fPL, but have decided against that for now as she's already had several blood tests this week and is still quite anemic, so the more blood taken will only add to that problem. If she gets worse we'll do the tests next week, but will give her a few days to recover from her last big vet visit on Wednesday. The good news is that her stools, while soft, have not had visible blood for the past two times. Yeah! We have increased her flagyl and added another antibiotic for more broad-spectrum coverage so are hoping that will help keep her from getting sicker. I plan to do a curve today and will do another either Saturday or Sunday. Am hoping to see a better pattern, but if her pancreas is inflamed control could be tricky. Am sticking with 1.5U for now and will see how the curves go.

AMPS = 548, gave 1.5U
+2.5 = 383
+4 = 317
+6 = 205
+8 = 177
PMPS = 523 test 1, 451 test 2 (do you average?), gave 1.5U
+3 =

So far, so good! Nice drop I think today, and not too fast. What do you think? She also seems to be feeling better. Not perfect, but I can tell she's a lot more comfortable. She had another two poops, both soft but more formed this time, no obvious blood, and they actually had some brownish color instead of being pasty. That's good too. I think the extra flagyl, fluids, and pain meds have helped, and possibly the extra antibiotics are kicking in too. I'll take improvement at this point. Am hoping this continues.

Glad Shaikha is feeling a little better today. Dang that pancreatitis! Nice blue. Paws crossed for nice #'s tonight.

Okay, well I guess I spoke too soon. She is doing okay, but when I tested at +11 she was over 500 again. I decided to retest since she'd been blue only a few hours before, and the second test was 451. She was wiggling, so I didn't want to poke her ear again. The first drop came from one ear, and the second from another. The blood drop the first time was a little small, so I wanted to retest to ensure the numbers were correct. Red or black though, it was high. I wish I'd tested an hour prior but was tied up.

I gave her food at +11 or so since her numbers were already high, and will shoot now, so that's at +12. Will not retest since she just ate. Will test again in a few hours. Will try to test again at +3 tonight. Given how her numbers changed today late I'll try to do the curve again tomorrow.

You got over a 300 point drop today, her liver is probably dumping sugar to protect herself from what her body thinks is a hypo, of course it isn't.

I think I would ride it out and stay with your dose until she get's more used to the blues.

Scritches to Shaikha.

Okay, that's good to know. My vet wants me to go slowly if we make any changes, but wanted me to try to stay at this dose for at least a week if we can to see if we can get her numbers to stop bouncing around. Hoping for a good curve tomorrow. Will test her again shortly.
