SEMGLEE insulin pens storage

I am confused about how to properly store Semglee opened pens: I am currently storing unopened pens in their box, upright in the fridge (temp. @ 39F); also been keeping the pen in the fridge at 39F as I thought I read in the group's files it's ok to keep it on the fridge for long time BUT on the box it says once opened "should NOT be refrigerated but should be kept at room temperature ( below 86 F/ 30 C ) away from direct heat and light. The opened (in use) SEMGLEE device must be discarded 28 days after being opened"...
Am I doing it wrong the whole time then?

I think since it's a bio-equivalent to Lantus, it would be stored the same. The storing instructions on the inserts are for humans, who go through insulin much quicker than cats, so it can be stored differently. I go with always refrigerate and use to the last drop for the Lantus pens. Here's the handling info for Lantus: https://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB...info-proper-handling-drawing-fine-dosing.151/. My assumption is it would be the same, but others may know more.
 
The instructions for pens are written for people who use the pen needles. Refrigeration can make the pen needle mechanism not work, and humans go through pens much faster than every 28 days, so it's fine for them to keep it outside. Since we use syringes to dispense the insulin from pens, it's OK to keep them in the fridge.

As of July 2021 the FDA designated Semglee interchangeable with Lantus.

FWIW, I wrap a rubber hairband around the cap of the pen I am currently using so it is easy to grab the correct one. I also keep an empty pen turned upside down in the box to shoot any overage into. When I was shooting the overage into a paper towel or in the sink, the odor was either getting on the syringe or my hands or somewhere making it difficult to determine when I had done a furshot. As you probably know, once that odor gets on you or in kitty's fur, it seems to take forever to wash/wear out. I feel so much better about dosing when I don't smell insulin. :)
