I tested Leo for the first time foe ketones. It is the precision blood meter. It came up .30
Is that a safe number? What is acceptable? Should it be zero?

I asked a very similar question and find that ketone thread referenced above to be information overload and I read through it and didn’t find an answer to my specific question (same as yours) of what number reading I should worry. Glad to see above someone mentions that it’s about 2.4 so my 0.4 and 0.6 readings (to try the meter) are fine.

Hi. And Welcome.

Readhttps://felinediabetes.com/ketones.htm

Here is thourough Study Material Learning for you to read and learn https://petdiabetes.fandom.com/wiki/Ketoacidosis
I find these links helpful for learning what and when ketoacidosis occurs, but both only mention the word “trace” levels, which is not defined by number in either link or on the sticky thread for ketones in the forum. I asked a similar question a day or so ago about what exactly “trace” amounts are and received many of the same links. It didn’t really answer my question though because I was looking for a specific number value that I should be concerned about. I tried my tester twice and got 0.4 and 0.6 which in the booklet said were normal readings but I wanted to make sure that applies to cats as well as humans.

The "trace" levels refer to urine ketone testing, hence the confusion. Also, the post that Ann linked has been updated and the newer version is in the Health Links forum. I'm looking into updating the information on the Ketone page to include the meter information.

I found this website too http://www.diabeticcatinternational.com/knowledge/ketones/ It says for blood ketones under .6 is normal.

Did a search on ketones and found this thread. I do not have the meter but have the strips. Is this enough of a trace to worry about? He seems fine.
